The Athletics improved to 60-88 with the victory and have now won seven of their last nine games. Donovan Walton delivered the winner with a two-run walk-off homer after Seattle had taken a 5-4 lead in the top of the 10th.
The Athletics now hold a 6-5 edge over Seattle in this season’s head-to-head series.
These AL West rivals have become surprisingly competitive lately. The Athletics took three of four in Seattle last weekend before grabbing Friday’s opener, while the Mariners’ only win in those five games came in a 2-0 shutout. Seattle needs a response with its fading playoff hopes leaving little margin for another loss.
Sutter Health Park has not provided the Athletics with much of a home advantage this season.
They enter Saturday at 28-45 at home, while Seattle will try to improve a poor road record of its own. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM PT, with Mariners.TV and NBC Sports California carrying the game.

Bryan Woo starts for Seattle with an 11-9 record and 4.03 ERA. The right-hander has recorded 158 strikeouts and owns an excellent 1.06 WHIP, showing much better baserunner control than his opponent.
Woo just faced these Athletics last Sunday and delivered one of his best performances of the season.

Here is my Mariners Athletics free pick: I’m taking the Under 9.5. Friday reached 11 runs, but it needed extra innings and a two-run walk-off homer to get there after the game sat 4-4 through nine.
These clubs just gave us a much cleaner blueprint six days ago. Seattle won that matchup 2-0, and Saturday brings back the same starting-pitcher pairing with Bryan Woo facing Gage Jump.
That matters because Woo gives Seattle a chance to control the early innings. The Athletics are also still without Shea Langeliers, removing one of their power bats from a lineup playing spoiler lately.
I’m not asking Gage Jump to dominate Seattle for this Under to cash.
The Mariners have scored five runs or fewer in nine straight games, and their offense has been inconsistent away from home. Even Friday’s five-run output required extra innings to reach that number. That gives me some room before this turns into a track meet.
Sutter Health Park can be dangerous for an Under, so the 9.5 gives us breathing room. I’d rather take that cushion than chase Friday’s final score after both bullpens were pushed into a tenth inning.
My MLB handicapping approach says the number is high enough. I’ll take the Under 9.5 and trust the rematch to stay low.
