The Giants are clinging to relevance right now. Another loss or two and it will be looking to 2016
The Rox have already started looking ahead but that doesn’t mean they are not still dangerous.
San Francisco Giants
The math might still work but the Giants are pretty much out of if after dropping three straight on the road to the Dodgers – all by a run too, crushing.
They are still on the road but now visiting the last place Rockies. Not a great team but one that is capable to roughing up opponents which is the last team a fragile team like the Giants need right now. It does not look like the champs are getting back to the playoffs.
Not helping matters much if that they are going with Ryan Vogelsong to try and stem the tide.
Vogelsong is not enjoying a good season and has been even worse at Coors Field over his career – ERA over 6.
This seasons his walk rate has been up and you just can’t afford to have too many men on base.
With the Giants essentially out of the race they are going to be a tough team to handicap from here on out.
The Rox are out of it. No other way to put it. However, thanks to their ability to hit they can still be a pretty good spoiler the rest of the way.
They have also held their own against the Giants this season and will be more than comfortable whacking away at Vogelsong.
In Nolan Arenado and Carlos Gonzalez they have two sluggers with 33 homers apiece. Not many teams can claim that kind of power and Arenado is on a hot streak too with homers in three straight games.
To say that starter Christopher Rusin has had an up and down season would be an understatement.
All you have to do is look at his two most recent home starts. The first was a complete game shutout of the Padres, the second 11ER in two innings against the Mets.
Its that lack of consistency that makes him so frustrating.
Looking further at his splits you see not much difference between home and road but he has yet to win a game at night this season. Kind of an odd quirk.
I wouldn’t do it because Rusin is on the mound but I think the Rox are the way to go tonight.
