The Giants have been more competitive than expected early. With these teams, any game with more than a few runs is probably going to lad to a win.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants are a surprising 8-4 to start the year. They have won their last two but I am still not sold on this team being good enough to finish .50 let alone push the Padres or Dodgers in the NL West. Maybe the pitching holds but the offense has been very unimpressive.
Anthony DeSclafani was an arm Cincinnati hoped would develop, but it never came. So far so good for the Giants though. He has given up just one run through two starts.
Jake McGee has already posted 6 saves for San Francisco. The bullpen has been a strength of the team early which is why the pitching might hold for the season. There is always one group that emerges each season.
Miami Marlins
The Marlins were not looking like much until their recent series against the Braves, three straight wins to start may mean they are ready to be a thorn in the side of opponents all season long. Similar to SF they need more consistent offense.
It hasn’t been announced yet but this looks like Trevor Rogers’ spot in the rotation. He has been as good as any Marlins starter this season. He has 16 Ks in just 10 ABs. He is showing a little more dominance than he did last season.
So far it has been the rotation that is carrying the team. The bullpen has been hit and miss but the numbers probably look worse than they are because we are so early in the season.
