San Francisco Giants
Kevin Gausman was not sharp on Monday but the Giants’ bullpen and bats picked him up in a 7–2 victory.
Gausman only got through three innings, gave up five hits, four walks, and two home runs. Fortunately for him, both those home runs, which came in the first inning, went for solo shots.
He escaped a jam with runners on first and second in the first and with the bases loaded in the second.
The Giants struck for two homers in the bottom half of the first but the first was a two-run shot by Buster Posey, who was activated off the Injured List prior to the game.
Posey finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored in his first game in two weeks. Wilmer Flores hit San Francisco’s second homer in that first inning to make it a back-to-back with the catcher.
The Giants then added four in the seventh against the Dodgers’ bullpen. Thairo Estrada and Austin Slater provided an RBI double each.
San Francisco’s bullpen was masterful in relief of a man who hasn’t needed much help from anyone else this season.
Jarlin Garcia set down all four batters he faced, including two strikeouts, and was credited with the win.
Dominic Leone, Jay Jackson and Jake McGee combined to allow just one hit in retiring the Dodgers in the seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Tony Gonsolin didn’t last much longer than Gausman did. He started the fourth inning but retired just one man before Dave Roberts came with the hook.
The Dodgers’ bullpen was cruising along until that aforementioned seventh. All told, five relievers threw about 80 pitches for Los Angeles on Monday.
Alex Wood, whom the Dodgers will face in this game on Tuesday night, came over from Atlanta in a 2015 trade with the Dodgers.
He spent the rest of that season, plus three more in Los Angeles, including a sparkling All-Star season in 2017 — the only one of his career.
Then he left in 2019 only to return in 2020 and win a World Series ring. He pitched four innings in the series against Tampa Bay last fall.
By then, he was coming out of the bullpen for the Dodgers. Back to a full-time starting role with the Giants, Wood faced his former team in back-to-back starts in May and pitched well both times.
He went six innings in each start, gave up a total of six runs and struck out 15 to just two walks.
The Dodgers had to place second baseman Gavin Lux on the 10-day IL with a hamstring strain. Corey Seager, however, appears close to his return, though not soon enough to play in this one.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:

- Giants are 16-5 in their last 21 road games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.

- Dodgers are 2-7 in their last 9 Tuesday games.
San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers MLB Prediction: it continues to be tight between these two.
As well as Wood did pitch in each of those two previous games against the Dodgers this season, he lost them both.
The Giants are 5–6 against the Dodgers this season but have actually outscored them by five runs after last night’s result.
San Francisco will again miss Brandon Crawford, who went out with an injury at the same time Posey returned.
The Dodgers haven’t revealed any of their pitching strategy. Expect this one to be closely contested, as the games between these two have been all year.
If there’s a significant underdog, lean that way.
