San Francisco Giants
Former ace of the Giants’ staff, Matt Cain, has made two starts that have been stark in contrast thus far this season. His first of the season was against the lowly San Diego Padres in which he gave up four earned runs in just over four innings of work.
He gave up several hits and walked a fair amount of batters as well and then most of the damage was done via the long ball, as he gave up two homeruns in his short outing.
In his last outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he was quite a bit more efficient, striking out six over five innings and giving up just one run. He still struggled with control, but it’s a positive sign for a pitcher that has struggled mightily over the past few seasons.
Kansas City Royals
The Royals, picked by many to take a slide this year have surprised both fans and critics alike with their early season performance. They’re only 6-6, but it’s how they’re sitting at .500 that is the most surprising.
After Yordana Ventura died unexpectedly in the offseason, they Royals weren’t expected to bring much to the table in terms of starting pitching excellence or depth.
Yet early on this season they lead the league in starting pitching ERA at 2.31, they’re also fourth in the league in FIP all the while pitching the fifth most innings of any starting staff.
They’ve surely needed it though, once they pass the game to the bullpen the pitching craters, with the Royals relievers posting a 6.68 ERA and walking nearly eight hitters per nine innings.
Jason Hammel has yet to survive past the first, so the bullpen could be in for a long night.

Free San Francisco Giants vs. Kansas City Royals MLB Prediction:
The starting pitching for the Royals has been outstanding early in the year, but has been hampered by a porous bullpen. Hammel has struggled to go deep in games and there are some key players on the Giants that could take advantage of those weaknesses.
Another start for Cain could add to his comfort, Giants should take this Tuesday game.
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: OVER 8.5
The Royals bullpen combusts nearly every night, and when coupled with a starter that hasn’t had success going deep into games, this could be a recipe for high scoring. Take the over and hope that the Royals dip into the pen early.
