Edwin Rodriguez has his roster set up to play Carlos Correa at third and Francisco Lindor at short. There isn’t much of a question that Correa will play out of position that gathers those two dynamos and Javy Baez in front of Yadier Molina.
Actually I do have two questions: is Puerto Rico an island? And if so, how does an island with 5 million people on it put together the best infield in the history of baseball? Even if it’s just a territory, I still want to know.
Seth Lugo will get the start. He was good in his rookie season for the Mets, which means something bad will eventually happen to him.
Omar Vizquel chose to carry just three outfielders: Gonzalez, Ender Inciarte and Odubel Herrera, three Major Leaguers with a good combination of speed and power. That leaves a lot of guys to sort through on the infield.
The thing is they’re all wicked good. Miguel Cabrera, Jose Altuve, Victor Martinez, Martin Prado, Salvy Perez. Team Venezuela is stocked with studs all over the place.
And then Felix Hernandez starts the opener.
The King is off of his worst season since he was just a prince back in 2006. I’m not sure if that means he’ll be in good shape, or not. But I’m not getting in line to buy on aging royalty.
Free Puerto Rico vs. Venezuela WBC Prediction:
Venezuela has all sorts of established stars, but ones that might not necessarily be ready at this point in the year. Miggy Cabrera strikes me as a guy who might need time to defrost, even if it doesn’t snow in Venezuela.
Puerto Rico on the other hand, is young and ready to play and writing about their infield just gave me a boner.
4* Free WBC Betting Pick: Puerto Rico +135
I’m thinking runs in the middle innings of a game that will go a long way in deciding how Pool D shakes out.
