The Pirates have the second most wins in the Majors but they are going to have to keep on pushing til the end of the season to maintain their current position.
Colorado has nothing to play for but they can be a dangerous team to tangle with at home
The Pirates took the series opener last night, winning 9-3, and carry a three game winning streak into game two.
Thanks to the Cubs pushing from behind they need to keep their foot on the gas or else they risk falling into the second Wild Card spot. They are just two games up.
Yesterday Aramis Ramirez had some big hits and it appears he might be coming around after a poor start to his return to Pittsburgh. He really lengthens their lineup.
Andrew McCutcheon continues to deliver another MVP calibre performance. The award might go to Bryce Harper but if you believe it should go to a player headed to the playoffs he is the guy in the NL.
There was not a ton of buzz when the Pirates acquired J.A. Happ from the Mariners.
However, in just eight starts he has already exceeded his win total with Seattle and has been dominant, striking out more than a batter per inning while posting an ERA under 2.
His first NL start was a scuffle but he has not given up more than 2ER in any start since.
The Rockies might have retooled a bit in dealing away Troy Tulowitzki for Jose Reyes and some pitching prospects but it is the same old story in Denver. This team can hurt you with their bats but are still losing more often than not.
They have the league’s worst pitching staff and career years from Nolan Arenado and Carlos Gonzalez have not been enough to compensate.
The most they can hope for over the last couple of weeks is to make their opponents, especially those in playoff races like Pittsburgh, throw more pitches than they would like to.
Lefty Christopher Rusin has not been good this season but one outing just killed his overall numbers – 11ER in just innings at home against the Mets.
Despite that outing he still has significantly better numbers at home than on the road and since that outing he has been more acceptable than terrible.
He probably shouldn’t be in the Majors but the Rockies just don’t have a ton of good options.
Rusin had a reasonable good outing against Pittsburgh last month giving up just 3ER in a loss. Aramis Ramirez when yard that day and it burned him.

4* Free MLB Betting Prediction: Pittsburgh
Happ might not be as sharp at the Humidor but you have to go with the Pirates here. They will keep gaining steam prior to their series against the Cubs
MLB Baseball Free Score Prediction: Pittsburgh 7 – Colorado 4
The over is tempting too but I think the Pirates staff can keep the Rox mostly in check,
