Well, this should be a terrible game to watch, plain and simple. However, if you’re betting on it, it always makes watching entertaining despite these two awful teams battling it out.
Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies have overachieved this year, which is saying quite a bit since they’re 13 games back and currently sit in 4th in their division.
Many, however, had picked these Phillies for 100+ losses and dead last in the league, but that will be the Atlanta Braves, who they face off against in this barn-burner of an NL East matchup.
Aaron Nola had a great start to the year, but has completely unraveled since mid-June, seeing him allow 33 earned runs over his past 7 starts, which is just 27.3 innings total.
His ERA now sits at 4.75 and WHIP up to 1.26, though he still has racked up 116 strikeouts.
Atlanta Braves
While the Phillies have “overachieved,” the Braves are about on course to where they were projected to finish- bottom of the barrel.
Their record, at 34-66, is the worst in all of baseball and they should trade off whichever pieces they deem expendable and try to rebuild for the coming years.
One of the bright spots for the A’s has been the man who will take the hill here, Julio Teheran.
He’s back to his 2013-14 self after somewhat of a down-year last season, where he recorded a 4.04 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.
This year, he has a 2.71 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with 115 Ks, despite owning just a 3-8 record.
Considering he is under control at an affordable price until the 2020’s, it would take a huge haul for the Braves to move him.
