After taking a 2-0 lead in the series the Astros dropped game three and let the Athletics stay alive for another game on Thursday. If this series comes down to a rubber game it will be played on Friday and be the fifth consecutive game in a row.
Oakland Athletics
It looked like the Athletics season was over heading into the seventh inning on Wednesday as they were down 7-4. Chad Pinder came through in the clutch with a three-run home run to tie the game and that shifted all the momentum in Oakland’s direction. The A’s then outscored the Astros 5-0 from that point on and secured themselves another day in the postseason.
Baseballs continue to just keep flying out of Dodger Stadium during the day. On Wednesday there were a total of seven home runs hit and now there have been 18 home runs hit so far in the three games played. The team that has hit more home runs on the day in this series is 3-0.
Oakland is averaging 5.33 runs per game over the first three games of the series. Most of the runs are coming from the long ball as they are averaging 3.33 home runs per game.
Bob Melvin will send out Frankie Montas to start game four of the series against Houston. Montas went 3-5 in the regular season with a 5.60 ERA in 11 games started. He surrendered 33 runs in 56 innings of work this season.
Houston Astros
The Astro’s are itching to get back to the World Series after their heartbreaking loss in seven games last year. Houston still leads in this NLDS 2-1 after the loss yesterday and is just one win away from the NLCS.

Houston has yet to figure out who is going to start game four on Thursday, so be on the lookout for the announcement prior to the game. Dusty Baker has a couple of options to go to one being Zach Greinke.

I think the Astros send the Athletics packing in this one. The Astro’s have the much better hitting team over the first three games, the pitching just didn’t come through for them on Wednesday. I expect Zach Greinke to be starting this game as he hasn’t made an appearance since facing the Twins, but it’s not official that he is going to start. Either way, if Greinke isn’t going for the Stro’s I think the offense for Houston is better than the Athletics right now, so I’m riding with the Stro’s to take game 4.
