Athletics still hold baseball’s best record at 16-6 after a sweep of the Giants out in the Bay. Arizona, on the other hand, got a sweep of their own out in the desert against the Padres and now are in the thick of the division race out in the NL West.
Oakland Athletics
Oakland is coming off a blowout win against the Giants on Sunday. The A’s scored nine runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 15-3 win on the road.
Matt Olson was outstanding on the day, going 3-5 at the plate and ended scoring three runs. Chad Pinder also had a nice day going 3-4 and driving in two runs. As a team, the Athletics are averaging 4.90 runs per game which ranks 12th in the MLB.
Chris Bassitt is the starter for Oakland for Monday’s game in the desert. The rotation is out of sorts due to an injury to Frankie Montas, who was scratched from Sunday’s start with a back injury.
Arizona Diamondbacks
D-Backs won in come-from-behind fashion on Sunday thanks to Eduardo Escobar’s home run. Escobar came through with a three-run home run in the eighth inning to push the winning runs across the plate in a 5-4 victory against San Diego.
Escobar’s dinger clinched a three-game sweep (four wins in a row) and set up a series between two scorching hot teams now. Eduardo had been struggling coming into Sunday’s game, he was batting just .167 on the year with one homer after walloping a career-best 35 last year.
Zac Gallen is expected to be on the bump for Arizona on Monday. He has been one of the best starters for the Diamondbacks this year, but has still yet to get a win! Gallen took a no-decision again in his last start, after allowing just two runs and a walk through six innings. Gallen is 0-0 with a 2.46 ERA to begin 2020.

Both these teams are how right now, but I’m going to have to give the edge to Arizona as Zac Gallen could be a future ace in this league. He’s yet to get a win and I think the D-Backs know how great he’s been this year without anything to show for it.
