The Yankees and Orioles will play their 2nd game of a 3 game series Saturday night in Baltimore. Jameson Taillon will get the start for the Yankees and Tyler Wells will be getting the ball for the Orioles.
The Yankees open up as -190 ML favorites while the Orioles are sitting at +160 home underdogs. The total for this game is set at 9.
New York Yankees
The Yankees come into this series fresh off a series split with the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium. They were able to get out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the 9th to win the final game of the series.
The Yankees were only able to put up 1 run on the board Friday night when they lost to the Orioles 2-1 in 11 innings. Stanton drove in the only run and was also 3-5 on the game.
Jameson Taillon will get his 2nd start of the season Saturday night. He is 0-1 this season after picking up a loss in a decent start by him. He pitched 5 innings giving up 2 earned runs and striking out 6 vs the stacked Blue Jays lineup. In this start, he threw his fastball 50% of the time and followed that with a slider 22% of the time. Last season, Taillon threw his fastball 49% of the time and only gave up a .199 batting average with that pitch.
The Yanks have had a mixture of hot and cold hitters to start this season. The hottest of their hitters would have to be Anthony Rizzo. He has hit 3 HRs and 2 of those have been early home runs after the Yankees got down a few runs.
A thing to watch in the Yankees lineup is their bottom 3rd, especially the 8 and 9 hole. Before Thursday nights game when Isiah Kiner-Falefa got 3 hits, him and Kyle Higashioka were hitting a combined 2-34 to start the season. They will need to get some more production from this part of the lineup and getting Kiner-Falefa’s speed on base for the top of the order will be key for this Yankees offense.
Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles pulled off the win vs the Yankees with a walk off walk in the 11th inning. They got a nice start from Jordan Lyles, who pitched 5.1 innings and only gave up 1 earned run.
Tyler Wells will be getting his 2nd start after a rough first outing. Wells was only able to get through 1.2 innings, giving up 4 earned runs against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Last season, Wells pitched to a 4.60 ERA in 45 games out of the bullpen for the Orioles. Doing the 2021 season, Wells was a little bit below average giving up an average exit velocity of 90 MPH.
On offense, the Orioles really haven’t seen much production; they have yet to crack over 5 runs in a game. Ryan Mountlecastle is off to a decent 2022 campaign, hitting .292 with a HR and 3 RBIs in the early season. Cedric Mullins and Mountlecastle are the key to this offense and they will look for production from them all season long.
Adley Rutschman should be getting fully healthy pretty quick here and I would expect him to be in the majors shortly after that. Rutschman is the 2nd ranked prospect in baseball, right behind Bobby Witt Jr. Hopefully when he gets the call, he will get off to a better start than the big name rookies have so far this season.
