The first two games produced 11 and eight runs, and both lineups have shown they can create damage quickly. New York hung nine on Arizona Friday, while the Diamondbacks answered Saturday with five runs and a walk-off homer. That’s enough for me to believe neither bullpen gets a free pass here.
Will Warren has been solid, but a 1.36 WHIP leaves some traffic on the bases. Arizona has enough left-handed danger to make those baserunners matter, especially in a park where mistakes can disappear quickly.
The other side is where this gets interesting.
Corbin Burnes owns a 5.87 ERA in limited work, and this isn’t the lineup I’d choose for a quiet Sunday afternoon. The Yankees have plenty of power even without Aaron Judge, and Burnes doesn’t need to implode for New York to put four or five on the board.
We don’t need a beer-league score to cash this ticket. A 5-4 game does the job, and both clubs have enough punch to get us there.
Arizona is fighting for its postseason life, while New York has no reason to coast into October.
