New York Mets
Heading into their matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies, the Mets are off to a strong start, putting together a record of 18-8-0, good for 1st in the NL East division. So far, New York has been tough as the road team, putting together a mark of 9-4. The Mets are hoping to add on another win, as they are coming off a 3-0 win over the Atlanta. Against Philadelphia, the Mets will send Taijuan Walker to the mound. Through 2 starts he Walker has yet to factor in to a decision. This has come while lasting an average of 3.5 per outing. A key Walker’s success at limiting runs is opposing hitters have a batting average of just 0.095 against the right-hander. His strong statistical start to the season is also backed by an FIP figure of just 2.6
To start the year, New York’s offense is off to a good start, averaging 4.54 runs per contest, placing them 8th in the league. One reason why the Mets are have been able to drive in runs at an above average rate is their team batting average of 0.257, which ranks 2nd in the league. Despite the team’s high batting average, they off to a slow start in the power department, ranking 21st in the league, averaging 0.77 home runs per contest.
Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies will look to pick up a win against New York in hopes of improving on the below .500 record of 11-13-0. This mark places the team 3rd in the NL East division. Through 14 games at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia is above .500, sitting at 8-6 at home. The Phillies hope to get back on track, after falling to Texas by a score of 6-4, Philadelphia will look to turn things around as they have won just 2, going a combined 2-6-0.
For Philadelphia, Aaron Nola comes into this game making 5 appearances thus far, having picked up just 1 win, on an overall 1-3. On average, Nola is going 5.4 innings per outing and will look to lower an ERA sitting at 3.9. Despite this high ERA, opposing batters have combined to hit just 0.214 against him. So far, his FIP rating of 3.9 is a confirmation of Nola’s overall struggles on the mound.

New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies MLB Prediction:
This pick feels slightly riskier, as we have two solid starting pitchers on the mound in this game. But, I will be riding with Max Scherzer and the New York Mets in this game. He has started five games this season and has a (4-0) record.
Not many teams can generate any offense when he is on the mound and I don’t see the Phillies having success against him. Scherzer has a .81 WHIP rating, as he isn’t allowing many men to reach base safely throughout these games. I also expect him to come out aggressive, as the Phillies were able to hit a few home runs off of him the last time they played.
The Mets are the better offensive and defensive team in this matchup and they have Scherzer on the mound. I can’t fade him when he is playing, as he has been too dominant to begin this new 2022 regular season.
Give me New York again.
