The Mets and Marlins wrap up this 3-game set on Thursday at loanDepot Park in Miami, FL after a thrilling game 2 on Wednesday night. Sandy Alcantara was impressive as hell going 9 innings and striking out 14 Mets along the way as the Fish went on to win in 10 innings.
The Marlins took an early 1 – 0 lead in the second inning and Alcantara held on to that lead until the top of the 7th. Michael Conforto continued his hot hitting and tied the game at 1 with his 12 HR of the season.
The Marlins bats came up in the 9th to get Alcantara a win and Seth Lugo was seemingly there to oblige. After a double for Jackson, Lugo walked the next two batters and loaded the bases with only 1 out. Rojas returned to the lineup after 3 days off and had his chance to win in it in the 9th but struck out. Jazz Chisholm thought he had a hit up the middle to win it, but the Mets defense had the shift up the gut and we went to extras.
The Mets were unable to score in the 10th and Bryan De La Cruz come up with the big hit in the bottom of the 10th to win it for the Fish. That worked out well for us ll being that we posted the Marlins ML… Mo Money!
NY Mets
The Mets are back down to .500 again and the uphill battle to reach the playoffs continues. At 70 – 70, that leaves the Mets 22 games to play in hopes of catching the Braves who lead the NL East Division. Let’s not lose track of the Phillies either, because they are also ahead of the Mets in the standings.
The Mets were only able to come up with 4 hits on Wednesday night as Alcantara really had total control of the Mets all night long. Edwin Diaz once again came up with the loss and that is becoming a concern for his confidence after two straight poor efforts. In his last 2 outings, Diaz has only pitched a combined total of 1 inning and has two losses to his credit. He blew the save in the Washington game back on the 6th of September and now tonight just adds to his frustration. In actuality, his last 3 outings have all led to runs as he gave up 2 ER on the 3rd against those same Nationals.
Marcus Stroman will pitch the rubber game in the series for the Mets on Thursday. Stroman has a 9 – 12 record with an ERA of 2.93 this season and has made 2 official starts against the Fish in 2021. I say official because the first start he made early in the season only had him in the game for 1/3 of an inning so he left that game early. His other outing against the Marlins was on May 21 and he did well pitching 6 innings while striking out 8 batters.
The Mets will hop on a plane back home to face the Yankees for a 3-game set this weekend after this game.
The Mets are strongly favored at -160 which has the line setters thinking they should cruise to a win. I am not as confident as they are knowing what I know. I don’t miss a pitch of any Yankees or Mets games so I see everything happening on the field for both teams.
In all honesty, I see some runs coming tonight to wrap up this series with the total nice and low at 7.5.
Miami Marlins
Sandy! I told you yesterday that he should be on a playoff-bound squad but the Marlins are just not selling him. I can’t blame them because the dude can pitch his brains out and he did just that on Wednesday. Sandy sent 14 Mets back to the dugout with their bats in hand and he was simply dominant. We all know he is the ace of that staff although Trevor Rogers has an argument to make and will/could be a stud for years to come.
Regardless, I also mentioned that the one place the Fish are most dangerous is in this park. The Marlins just seem to step it up a notch in Miami as evident from their 37 – 34 record at home. Keep in mind now, this is a team that has already lost 81 games this season because the road has been full of games to forget this year for the Fish.
Jesus Luzardo will toe the slab on Thursday with his ERA over 7 as the southpaw has brought that number down a full point over his last 2 outings. Luzardo’s ERA was up near 8 just two starts ago but he has looked better recently. He has pitched 11 and 2/3 innings in his last two starts against the Reds and Phillies and he only gave up 1 hit to the Reds in that start.
We… wait, who the hell are we?
I have gone 2 – 0 with this Mets Marlins series and you are about to go 3 – 0 tailing me when I issue this play.

Free New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins MLB Prediction:
I like this total and we are playing to go over the number. We are seeing 7.5 at most sites although the 8 might be seen at a few books as well. As I see it, I have -115 on the 7.5 to go over so that is my suggested play.
