The Mets hit the road for 3 games in Miami before their rivalry series with the Yanks this coming weekend.
While the Marlins had Labor Day off to travel, rest, and relax, the Mets spent their holiday losing a baseball game. In disheartening fashion, Mets fans had to endure a 4 – 3 loss to the lowly Nationals as they finished up their 5-game series. The Mets took 3 wins from 5 games against the Nats and carry an 8 – 2 record over their last 10 games, however.
The Marlins and Mets have split their 12 meetings with 6 wins apiece in the season series. The Marlins got swept in what became a 3-game set against the Mets to end August and begin September.
Despite being 57 – 80 in 2021 the Marlins own a 37 – 32 record at loanDepot Park this season. The Fish simply hope to play spoiler while they build towards 2022.
NY Mets
The Mets were in a position to take the 4th win from the adjusted 5 games against the Nationals going into the 9th inning on Monday. What happened next is what Mets fans would rather forget as the chase for the playoffs is on and every loss hurts!
With a 3 – 2 lead going to the bottom of the 9th and having won 8 of their last 9 games, the Mets blew the lead and lost the game. They now have to get on a plane and regroup for 3 games against Miami knowing the series with the Yankees is looming beyond that.
The Mets are already without Brandon Nimmo for this next week+ as he landed on the DL at a bad time. Nimmo was among the hottest hitters in the Mets lineup before not only taking a ball in the eye recently but also hitting the disabled list too.
Michael Conforto has picked up his stroke lately and Carlos Baez needs to just keep his mouth shut and play baseball. The Polar Bear has been a quiet bat of late and that also needs to change if the Mets want to remain a conversation piece in the post-season picture.
Mets reliever Edwin Diaz walked two batters in the ninth inning and guess what that led to? You are a champion at this quiz thing, nice job! Yeah, the dude blew the save and left the Mets at 69 – 69 4 GB of Atlanta instead of 3.
Letting the Nationals hang around long enough to beat you was the first problem, but we all know that walks can kill you and they cost the Mets the win. Diaz gave up 2 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs, and his outing jacked his ERA to a straight 4.00 on the year.
You would think that Soto would be responsible for some of that but that was not the case. Soto was the only starter in the Nationals lineup who didn’t have a hit, in fact. Carter Kieboom ended the game with a single up the gut to knock in Bell who was the 2nd walk by Diaz. Soto had fouled out to left harmlessly and was 0 – 4 on the day.
Andrew Stevenson calmly came on to pinch-hit with two men on in the 9th and he drove in the tying run while moving Bell into scoring position… Bell scored the winning run on the Kieboom rip, as mentioned, and it was ‘drive home safely!’
Carrasco has gotten his touch back, and I know this because I watch about every pitch of every Mets game. That is why I grabbed the Mets game, duh. So, I get to see everyone and what they have happening for both the Yanks and Mets, in fact. Every day.
Anyway, Carrasco obviously got off to a rough start after his long absence from the hammy to start the season. He is slowly becoming the pitcher the Mets hoped they might get when they brought him over from Cleveland. Missing half of the season was bad enough, but when he was getting torched right away it was panicking to many Mets fans and media.
Carrasco is getting closer to being all the Mets can hope they would get, so he is keeping the ball down and gaining arm strength too. You cannot have an effective slider and split if your fastball has no pace and he knew it. That took time but he is in a better place IMO.
Miami Marlins
The Marlins are throwing Edward Cabrera to the slab and he will make just his third start of the season. Cabrera last pitched against these Mets on August 31 and he picked up his first loss for his trouble. Cabrera went 4 innings that day and gave up 7 hits, 3 earned runs, and gave up a dinger.
So far, Cabrera has made 2 starts and he has allowed 3 dingers, in fact. On August 25 against the Nationals in his first start, Cabrera went 6.1/3 with a ND and dropped 2 bombs along the way.
Conforto was the man responsible for lighting up Cabrera in their August 31 affair at Citi Field.
The Marlins were winners of four straight games before their loss to Philadelphia on Sunday, 4 – 3. Speaking of teams in the playoff hunt, the Fish took 2 of 3 games from both Cincy and Philly before Monday’s day off.
Trevor Rogers also found his way back to the field this past week after all of the concern about his parents. Rogers will go later this week again as he gets acclimated back into the rotation.
The team defense has helped the Fish win plenty of games in 2021, as they rank above the middle of the table in all of baseball’s important defensive stats. Offensively? Well, the bats need to catch up a little as the FIsh rank 28th or worse in almost every offensive category.
Of concern is Miguel Rojas as he left Sunday’s game with what they are calling trapezius soreness. I didn’t even know he was in the circus, but he must have gotten hurt on the trapeze? IDK LoL
Rojas only needs 37 more plate showings to become eligible for his 2022 contract option. Rojas has just been a star among the youth rush in Miami especially when he is at the top of the order.
Isan Diaz apparently forgot how to hit a baseball lately, as he is 0 for 27 with 8 Ks recently. Ouch, baby!
The Marlins are 6 – 13 over their last 19 games but they are also 6 – 2 in their last 8 games at home.

Free New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins MLB Prediction:
I like this total and I like it a lot. Cabrera will give up 2 HR because that is what he does, and it will lead to more scoring overall. I expect no less than 8 runs to cross the plate and that cashes our Over 7.5 tickets!
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: Over 7.5 -115
