Braves return to a series versus the Mets at home after drawing the series with the Rays 2-2 after a lot of tough fought games.
On the other hand, you have the Mets who should have taken at least three of four of the Red Sox but ultimately ended up splitting the series. Steven Matz pitched a great game but as it usually goes the Mets couldn’t give their starter any run support.
New York Mets
Mets are still having their offensive woes only managing to score two runs against the Red Sox in their final game of the series. They had many wasted opportunities over the series and simply just couldn’t get in a run.
Pete Alonso came into the night hitting .250 and had another 0-for against a weak pitching staff he needed to take advantage of. As a team, the Mets are averaging 4.17 runs a game and fell short of that average yet again on Thursday night.
Rick Porcello returns to the mound for the amazins’ as he had a shaky start in his Mets debut. His ERA is 27.00 on the season to go along with a 0-1 record.
Atlanta Braves
Braves got to over .500 for the second time this season heading into their second series with the Mets. They are 4-3 and the top of their pitching staff is really solidifying themselves as a top duo in the league.
Max Fried had another fantastic performance giving up one run through 6.2 innings of work to a potent Rays lineup. The lineup was quiet again though only scoring two runs, but it was enough to get the win. Offensively, they are averaging 5.5 runs a game in this early season.
Sean Newcomb is back on the bump after a nice start his first time out giving up one run through 3.1 innings. He’s still looking for his first win on the season.

I like Rick Porcello to make up for his very disappointing start in his Mets debut and show the team that he’s still got it after a terrible 2019 season. It looked as if Pete Alonso was going to bust out of his slump in Boston, but in New York, the struggles continue. Hopefully, he can get some polar bear magic on the road in Atlanta.
