Twins vs. Angels Gameday
Minnesota enters Saturday night’s game at Angel Stadium with a 72-82 record after evening this four-game series at one win apiece. The Twins answered Thursday’s 5-4 extra-inning loss by shutting out Los Angeles 3-0 Friday night.
The Angels are 59-95 and officially playing out the string, although they made Minnesota work for Thursday’s win. Walbert Ureña threw seven scoreless innings before Los Angeles eventually walked it off in the 10th.
Nothing screams September baseball quite like two eliminated teams requiring extra innings to settle an argument.
Minnesota returned the favor Friday behind Connor Prielipp. The rookie allowed only two hits over seven scoreless innings, while Walker Jenkins went 3-for-4 and homered for the second consecutive game.
That leaves Saturday as the third game of the four-game set, with Joe Ryan facing Reid Detmers. Neither club has much postseason drama left, but the first two games have at least provided considerably more fight than the standings promised.

The market sees very little separating these teams. Minnesota and Los Angeles are sitting around a pick’em at most sportsbooks, with prices ranging from roughly Twins -110 to Angels -115 depending on the shop.
Minnesota is +1.5 on some runline boards when Los Angeles is the slight favorite, while other books have flipped the Twins to -1.5 at plus money. The total is sitting at 7.5, which tells you considerably more about Saturday’s pitching matchup than either team’s record.
The Twins have split their first two games in Anaheim after taking Friday’s contest 3-0. Thursday was much messier, with Minnesota erasing a late deficit before Los Angeles escaped 5-4 in 10 innings.
Minnesota has now won two of its last three overall.
The Angels have dropped four of their last six, and their offense has scored four runs or fewer in six of the past seven. With Ryan and Detmers taking the mound, the sportsbooks aren’t exactly expecting batting practice Saturday night.
Angels Stats
Zach Neto continues to supply much of the damage for Los Angeles. He’s reached 26 home runs this season and remains one of the few reliable power threats in an Angels lineup that has struggled to produce consistently.
The larger issue has been turning opportunities into runs. Los Angeles was held to four hits Friday and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, wasting its best chance when it loaded the bases in the eighth inning.
Four hits and zero runs is a difficult formula to dress up, even in September.
The Angels have at least received quality starting pitching lately. Ureña threw seven scoreless innings Thursday, and Grayson Rodriguez followed by allowing three runs across 6 2/3 innings Friday.
Now they hand the ball to Detmers.
The left-hander enters at 6-8 with a 3.36 ERA and 199 strikeouts. He has been one of the more dependable pieces of this rotation and is coming off his seventh consecutive quality start, giving Los Angeles a legitimate chance to keep another game tight.

Minnesota is batting .244 with a .317 on-base percentage and .403 slugging percentage through 154 games. The Twins have hit 178 home runs, with Kody Clemens leading the club at 26.
Luke Keaschall has been Minnesota’s most consistent average hitter, batting .279 while leading the team with 140 hits and 75 runs. Brooks Lee has added 23 home runs, giving a changing Twins lineup another source of power.
Friday belonged to Walker Jenkins.
The rookie went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and has now homered in consecutive games. Minnesota also received two hits from Lee as the offense did enough behind Prielipp’s best start of the season.
The pitching staff has been much less reliable across the full year. Minnesota owns a 4.63 team ERA with 1,302 strikeouts, but Friday’s shutout was a reminder that the individual arms are capable of making that season number irrelevant for one night.
Ryan gets that opportunity Saturday.

Twins vs. Angels Pitching Matchup
Joe Ryan enters Saturday at 6-10 with a 3.84 ERA and 146 strikeouts. The win-loss record isn’t particularly flattering, but his ERA tells a more useful story about how well he’s actually pitched.
Ryan has the swing-and-miss stuff to make life difficult on an Angels lineup that just spent Friday searching unsuccessfully for home plate.
The right-hander also gets a Los Angeles offense that hasn’t generated much sustained pressure lately. If Ryan stays away from the big inning, Minnesota shouldn’t need an offensive explosion to give him a chance.
Detmers reaching 199 strikeouts makes Saturday a lousy night for hitters interested in easy contact.
Reid Detmers brings the stronger season line into the matchup at 6-8 with a 3.36 ERA. He’s also one strikeout shy of 200 and has delivered seven straight quality starts.
His latest came against Seattle, when he allowed three runs over six innings while striking out eight. That kind of consistency explains why Saturday’s total has been parked at only 7.5 despite two pitching staffs that haven’t exactly dominated the season.
This one has the look of another game where the first mistake could matter more than the first rally.
Minnesota Twins vs. Los Angeles Angels bottom line: Ryan and Detmers can both miss bats, so this feels less like a night for offensive fireworks and more like a race to see which lineup wastes fewer chances.

Here is my Twins Angels free pick: Twins ML -109 is my play. Minnesota isn’t exactly storming toward October, but this matchup gives the Twins a reasonable path at an even price. Joe Ryan gets the ball opposite Reid Detmers.
Ryan’s season has been better than his 6-10 record suggests, and Minnesota just watched Connor Prielipp shut out this Angels lineup on four hits. Los Angeles has now scored four runs or fewer in six of its last seven games. That’s not much margin for error against a starter capable of missing bats.
The price is doing plenty of the work here.
Neither offense inspires poetry, but Minnesota doesn’t need style points at this number.
Detmers has been excellent lately, so this isn’t a bet against the Angels left-hander. The bigger issue is asking Los Angeles to generate enough offense if Ryan settles in. Minnesota has the more trustworthy late-game path after Friday’s bullpen finished the shutout.
This series has already produced a one-run extra-inning game and a 3-0 Twins win. I’m expecting another tight one rather than pretending either offense suddenly discovered cheat codes.
At -109, I don’t need Minnesota to be pretty. I need Ryan to keep the Angels quiet long enough for the Twins to scratch out the deciding runs.
