Minnesota opens a four-game series against Los Angeles Thursday night at Angel Stadium. The Twins enter at 71-81 and fourth in the AL Central, while the Angels are 58-94 and buried at the bottom of the AL West.
Minnesota salvaged its series against the Yankees Wednesday with a 5-4 win in 13 innings. Zebby Matthews gave the Twins six scoreless innings before the bullpen turned the afternoon into considerably more work than anyone ordered.
Minnesota needed 13 innings Wednesday, so the bullpen won’t arrive in Anaheim particularly well rested.
Los Angeles had won two straight against Seattle before dropping Wednesday’s finale 7-2. The Angels stranded 14 runners, which is a fairly efficient way to make two runs feel even worse.
The Twins won two of three when these teams met earlier this season. Minnesota has struggled lately at 3-7 over its last 10, while Los Angeles has been the steadier club at 5-5.

Taj Bradley gets the ball for Minnesota at 11-6 with a 3.81 ERA and 190 strikeouts.

Seven and a hook doesn’t leave much room for nonsense, but these starters can make it work.
Ureña has been even tougher to score against, carrying a 2.88 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. His strikeout numbers aren’t Bradley’s, but a heavy ground-ball profile has helped him avoid the kind of crooked innings that wreck an Under before the bullpen phones start ringing.
Minnesota isn’t exactly arriving hot.
The Twins have lost seven of nine despite Wednesday’s 13-inning win over the Yankees, and their bullpen had to cover seven innings in that marathon. That’s the one piece here that makes me a little nervous.
The Angels have been better lately, but Seattle held them to two runs Wednesday. All three previous meetings between these clubs stayed Under, and I’m willing to ride that matchup again.
I don’t need a masterpiece from either starter.
Give me six decent innings apiece and let these lineups do what they’ve been doing.
