The Twins are in triple-digits! Unfortunately, not the good kind… as they have racked up 102 losses on the year and sit firmly in the basement of the MLB.
With just weeks remaining prior to the post-season, the team looks poised to capture the 1st overall selection in next year’s amateur draft.
There are a lot of holes in this team that need to be filled, however, both in the rotation and throughout the lineup.
The Twins have a nice future bat in Max Kepler, and hope they can also build around Byron Buxton and Jose Berrios, but at this point the MLB has not been kind to either of their respective prospect status, albeit still early.
Kyle Gibson hasn’t been as great MLB starter for most of his career, and at 28-years old it appears that we know who he is by now. He owns a career 4.58 ERA and 1.40 WHIP, but his numbers on the year are worse than those marks.
Gibson has a 5.04 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with just 96 strikeouts in 2016. I might be wise to trade him as a depth chip and acquire any type of prospect before there isn’t a chance to.
Kansas City Royals
Kansas City is coming off of a World Series pennant and are now bound to miss the playoffs this year.
They certainly had their share of bad luck through injuries this year, as Mike Moustakas was lost early on for the year and along the way there were extended absences from Alex Gordon, Wade Davis and Lorenzo Cain.
However, every team gets injuries and after sneaking into the post-season on the back of a great run, management has to be looking at what they can do to improve upon a good, not great, team.
One of the breakout-of-the-year candidates has to be Danny Duffy, who finally put all the talent he poses together across the span of a season and he’s become the del-facto ace on the Royals now.
On the year, Duffy owns a 3.43 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 185 strikeouts over 173.1 innings thrown.
Kansas City will need him to repeat his perfomance next season to make any type of post-season noise, but should also look to boost the mediocre staff around him.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Twins are the only 100+ loss team in the MLB so far this year
- Brain Dozier is tied for 2nd overall in homeruns with 42.
- The Twins are 1-9 in their past 10 games.
- KC is 46-30 at home.
- The Royals are 6-4 in their past 10 games.
Free Minnesota Twins vs Kansas City Royals MLB Prediction:
Neither team has much to play for at this point in the year, aside from avoiding any major injuries and trying to get their young players more experience at the big league level. Oh, and also pride…which I’m not too sure where Minnesota’s lays now that they’ve reached the century mark of losses. I’ll take the better pitcher, the better team, the home team and the spread all wrapped into one.
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: Kansas City -1.5
Would also double down on the team under for Minny.
MLB Free Score Prediction: Minnesota 2 – Kansas City 5
