A pair of AL Central Division foes go at it as the Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals meet in KC this weekend.
The Royals are expected to compete for the division crown while the Twins, who vastly improved this offseason, will try to be a dark horse and surprise some people with a push toward the top.
Kansas City Royals
The Royals had a very emotional first two games of the season. On Sunday, they were featured on Sunday Night Baseball and prior to the game got to raise the flag for their 2015 World Series. Then on Tuesday, the ring ceremony was performed and the team got to collect their rings.
Now that all that is aside, it’s time for them to lock in for the long haul. The Royals split their opening 2 games with the Mets, winning on Sunday and then getting shut out on Tuesday.
The Royals will go with fireballer Yordano Ventura here on Friday. Ventura posted a 13-8 record last season, but his ERA sat over 4 which is something he’ll need to improve on this year. Getting control of his fastball and not over throwing is a must for him as he sometimes will work to fast and lose focus.
Minnesota Twins
Things haven’t gone according to plan for the Twins just yet. The Twins have managed just 4 runs through their first two games and will try to avoid a sweep in Baltimore on Thursday before coming here to Kansas City.
The Twins will look to Brian Dozier and Joe Mauer to step things up as the rookies for the Twins just haven’t started off well. The veteran leadership is something these two bring to the table that should help the rookies get more comfortable quicker.
Minnesota will go with Ervin Santana here on Friday night. Santana got through 2.0 innings of work in the season opener as he struck out 3. His work was cut short thanks to a lengthy rain delay as the Twins simply could not send him back out there.
