Minnesota Twins
The Twins have played well this season. For the most part, I have liked what I have seen out of them.
If they can keep up what they have done so far and turn in a good season when all is said and done, this year will be a very good bounce-back year after what they did in 2021.
As you look at the success that this group has had so far, it really is not very surprising. They are not the most talented team out there but they have gotten a lot of solid contributions from people around the board which is huge.
For some time now, it has been understood that the biggest strength of Minnesota is their offense and that has once again been the case this season. As you look at some of the hitters they have in that lineup, it is not surprising at all.
There is no question the pitching has been solid for them this season but I do feel it could be better and it would not hurt to acquire some people to bolster that staff. For them to be a true threat in the AL, I would like to see them acquire some people in the rotation and bullpen.
If the Twins can keep up this kind of play, there is no reason why they cannot win the AL Central. The White Sox have been below average and they are their biggest threat in terms of the division.
Given the fact that the Central is not some uber-competitive division, it is important that these guys take care of other divisional opponents. They did not do so in Detroit in the first game but will look for that to be different in this one.
Detroit Tigers
The Tigers have not played well at all this season. As far as I’m concerned, they have been a major disappointment.
If these were past years, then I would not be saying this because nobody would have expected them to be any good. For a while, it was understood that they would be bad so it was hard to be too critical of them.
The difference for this season is their expectations for the Tigers in 2022 and people thought they could at least be decent. I thought them playing at that level was at least realistic but that has not been the case.
When you look at some of the players that they acquired along with another year with AJ Hinch as the skipper, it made sense that this club could be a borderline playoff team. Nobody said they had to be the Dodgers or Mets but could they at least be relevant?
When a team plays like this, everyone is to blame for something. Whether it is the manager, the front office, or the players, they should be acknowledging that they do not put the team in the best spot to win and strive to be better.
Coming into this contest, Detroit has a record of 18-29 and they are 4th in the AL Central. Minnesota leads them by 10 games at the moment and it would not surprise me if that number crept up as the season went on.

Minnesota certainly did not start off the series the way they wished but I look for a response from them here.
Listen, I know the sample is certainly not a big one but I have liked what I have seen from Ober and I trust him against this Detroit lineup. If he is on his game, he should be able to take care of that offense.
Skubal might be able to be effective for a bit but I do not see him sustaining that for the whole game. It will be very tricky to contain that Twins lineup while he is out there and once it goes to the pen.
Give me Minnesota at -1.5 here.
