The Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins square off Tuesday in the second game of a three-game series.
Minnesota Twins
The Minnesota Twins are reeling and its been a bit puzzling to see. The Twins were the favorites to take the AL Central at the start of the year, but have spiraled out of the gate and have lost twice as many games as they’ve won. They’ve lost three in a row now after dropping two to Pittsburgh over the weekend.
The batting stats are not great for the Minnesota Twins, given their recent stretch of season where they were one of the more feared lineups in the league. They are still respectable, however, as the Twins 17th in the MLB, averaging 4.2 runs per game, and 11th with a .241 batting average. 40-year-old Nelson Cruz is still as big a power threat as ever and currently owns a .323 average with seven home runs.
The pitching has been average for the Twins as well. They are right in the middle of the pack in the MLB in team ERA at 4.14. Their bullpen has been an issue, ranking 24th in the league in ERA.
Kenta Maeda looks to shake off a rough start Tuesday. is 1-1 with a 6.11 ERA and 1.87 WHIP, but has historically dominated the Indians. In three career starts against Cleveland, Maeda is 3-0 with a 0.50 ERA.
Cleveland Indians
The Indians have now won two games in a row following a walkoff blast by Jordan Luplow on Monday.
The Indians has been a major issue for this team all year, and that was to be expected given they entered the season with the lowest payroll in all of baseball. The Indians are 29th in MLB, batting .206 and 25th averaging 3.8 runs per game.
Cleveland has had three batters producing at an effective level thus far. Slugger Franmil Reyes has driven in 14 runs, is batting .286, and has slugged five home runs.
After a rough season last year, Luplow is starting to look like an everyday player for this team. His walk off dinger gives him six now on the season. Jose Ramirez has also shown good power and tied the game in the eight last night with a home run of his own.
As expected, the Indians pitching staff has been the strength of the team. They are eighth in the league in ERA thanks in part to Tuesday’s starter, Aaron Civale. The right-hander is 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA this season.

- Indians are 7-3 in their last 10 vs. American League Central.
- Indians are 11-5 in their last 16 Tuesday games.
- Indians are 65-30 in their last 95 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: Indians Moneyline, Under
With the way the Twins have been playing, its hard to take them even as a slight road favorite. Maeda is due to progress at some point, but Civale should have the upper hand still on Tuesday.
Both of these pitchers have good track records against their opponents and neither offense is clicking, so I like the under here as well.
