This is the second game of a doubleheader. The write-up of the day’s first matchup between Griffin Jax and Lance Lynn can be found on our MLB page.
Rocco Baldelli has already announced both his Game 1 and Game 2 starters for Monday, unlike Tony LaRussa, who was in his 27th year as a big league manager when Baldelli played as a rookie in 2003.
Jose Berrios will start the nightcap for the Twins, who are 0–6 in Chicago and 2–10 against the White Sox this season overall.
The 27-year-old from Puerto Rice is having another terrific season: 7–3 with a 120 ERA+ in 108 innings. Per the Minnesota Star Tribune, since he became a full-time starter in 2017, Berrios has thrown over 700 innings, the tenth-most in all of baseball.
“La Maquina,” as he is known, gave up one hit in seven innings against the White Sox less than two weeks ago. He struck out 10 but took the loss anyway, giving up one earned run, another one unearned, and receiving just one in support.
Minnesota’s offense may get a lift with the return of Mitch Garver on Monday. The catcher has an OPS+ over 130 in 135 plate appearances before missing seven weeks due to a groin injury.
Chicago White Sox
The White Sox beat the Astros on Sunday, 4–0, to get 20 games over .500 for the first time since 2008.
Carlos Rodon struck out 10 without a walk and gave up one measly hit in seven innings to get the win.
Tim Anderson, after spending the morning and early afternoon tweeting about the British Open, continued to rake. His solo home run in the seventh extended his hitting streak to 15 games. He’s hitting over .400 during the streak.
Books may start dangling odds on this game before Chicago even announces a starting pitcher, if it does indeed wait until the conclusion of Game 1.

Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox MLB Prediction: Berrios gets let down again.
This one is worthwhile just for the chance to see a great pitcher take on the challenge of trying to lead a bad team over a good one. Maquina will more than likely be good again.
But once again he will lose in a game Minnesota just can’t get him enough runs. That’s just the way it goes for certain pitchers against certain teams in certain seasons. This one feels like one of those spots for Berrios.
