Two of the top expected contenders in the NL Central go head to head in game one of a three-game series Thursday as the Saint Louis Cardinals play host to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers have responded strongly to their 1-3 start as they’ve won each of their last two games. Milwaukee defeated Chicago 4-2 in extras Wednesday to even their record at 3-3. The Brewers picked up three runs in the tenth inning to take in route to the victory.
Christian Yelich was able to rediscover his rhythm Wednesday, going 3-for-4 at the dish. Center fielder Lorenzo Cain was the difference maker for the Brewers Wednesday, launching two home runs. Cain hit a go-ahead home run in extra innings.
The Brewers have been one of the worst teams in baseball offensively to start the season. They are 28th in the league in team batting average at .161 and have struggled to put the runs on the board.
The good news for the Brewers is that they make catch a break facing a struggling Cardinals pitching staff. The Cardinals have a team ERA that ranks 27th in the league. Corbin Burnes took a perfect game into the fifth in his last start and looks to keep his momentum going. He has a 1.42 ERA along with 11 strikeouts.
St Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals recovered nicely from losing two out of three to Cincinnati by sweeping the Miami Marlins. The Marlins only scored three runs in three games against Saint Louis. In their last game, the Cardinals got great offensive production across the lineup. Yadier Molina hit a two-run homer and Dylan Carlson launched a grand slam to lead the Cardinals.
Much like the Brewers, the Cardinals have struggled on offense, hence the low total. The Cardinals are 24th in batting average and bottom ten in the league in runs scored as well. The Cardinals are hitting .200 as a team.
Adam Wainwright gets the start for St. Louis. He was roughed up in his last start, giving up six runs in less than three innings of work. This could very well be Wainwright’s last year in the majors given his recent struggles. The Cardinals have lost the four outings he has pitched.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:

- Cardinals are 1-4 in their last 5 games on grass.
- Cardinals are 0-4 in their last 4 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.

- Under is 4-0 in Brewers last 4 games as a road favorite.
Free Milwaukee Brewers vs. St Louis Cardinals MLB Prediction:
The Brewers are the play here despite the three game winning streak of the Cardinals. Wainwright can’t be trusted at this point for St. Louis and the Cardinals have not looked effective at the plate or on the mound. Burnes is the far better pitcher at this stage and will give the Brewers the edge.
