A pair of sellers at the trade deadline begin their series in San Diego as the Milwaukee Brewers take on the Padres at Petco Park.

With all of the uncertainty revolving around All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy, it’s tough to see just how much the Brewers really care about the remainder of this season.

Despite hanging with the Cardinals and Pirates well into June, the Brew Crew find themselves as sellers and are ready to regroup for next season.

The Brewers have some nice pieces in Jonathan Villar and Junior Guerra, but they have a long way to go until they’re serious contenders.

Jimmy Nelson will toe the slab for Milwaukee as he looks to improve on his six weeks of success.

Since June 21, Nelson has allowed just 10 earned runs including just six earned runs over his last four starts.

His numbers haven’t been as good on the road, but the Padres and their mediocre offense shouldn’t pose too much of a threat.

San Diego Padres

After dealing away Andrew Cashner, Colin Rea and Matt Kemp, the Padres solidified themselves as sellers at the trade deadline.

It’s been a rough year for the Friars as they find themselves 15 games under .500 with less than 60 games to go.

Actually, the only good thing that San Diego’s had this year was getting to host the All-Star game.

One of the guys the Padres acquired in that trade with the Marlins was Jarred Cosart, who is nothing to write home about.

Cosart spent a few months in Triple-A trying to work on his control and the Marlins didn’t see him as part of their long-term plans.

He comes in with a 5.95 ERA and has five more walks than he does strikeouts.
