Oddsmakers are expecting a completely different matchup between the Brewers and Twins on Saturday compared to what we saw in Friday night’s series opener. The Twins pulled off the 2-0, but see a run total set at 10 for game two of this matchup.
Where do oddsmakers think the runs come from in this one? The Brewers have scored 1 run the last two games and the Twins 4 over that span. Bettors will likely also like Milwaukee at -160, considering the Brewers are the best road team in baseball this season.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers had every excuse to put up some huge offensive numbers on Friday night considering they were facing a pitcher who has been throwing in Japan the last three years and hadn’t won a MLB game since 2017.
Nonetheless Milwaukee was stifled to 0 ER and just 3 hits over 5.1 IP against journeyman Andrew Albers. That follows Thursday’s game in which Cincinnati’s Sonny Gray also gave up 3 hits and 0 ER in a 5-1 Reds win.
Milwaukee doesn’t have anything to play for up 8 in the NL Central, and they’re showing it. That being said, very few people are expecting the Twins to take two in a row to start this series, especially when they use a pitcher making just his 5th career start.
The Brewers definitely have the pitching experience edge in this game, as Adrian Houser (7-5, 3.44 ERA) pushes the Brewers to another win in one of his starts. Houser is far from the ace of this staff, but Milwaukee has won 10 of the last 11 times he’s taken the hill.
Minnesota Twins
Minnesota got an out of nowhere pitching performance from Albers on Friday as he was making his first start since 2017. If Albers can do that against this Brewers offense, it definitely gives hope for Charlie Barnes (0-3, 6.56 ERA) to pick up his 1st MLB win.
Barnes has had his ups and downs this season. If you catch him on a bad day (5 ER on August 4th, 7 ER on August 20th) forget about it, but he’s also held the Rays and Tigers to just 2 ER in 9.2 IP this season. The Twins have lost in 4 of 5 Barnes appearances, but to be fair his last four outings have all been against playoff contenders (which Milwaukee of course is too).
The Twins won with pitching on Friday, something new to Rocco Baldelli and Company. Sure Josh Donaldson hit a 2-run HR in the first inning that proved to be a game winner, but with a run total of 10 it’s not looking like Saturday’s game is going to follow the same low scoring fate.
There’s still reasons to like Minnesota at +135 on Saturday, namely two red hot batters. Jorge Polanco was 0-4 on Friday, but had HRs in three straight prior. Donaldson has went yard in 4 of the last 6, and on a side note the Twins got Byron Buxton back for the weekend series even though he hung an 0 for 3 in game one.

Free Milwaukee Brewers vs. Minnesota Twins MLB Prediction:
Minnesota has won three home series in a row, against good teams like the Rays, White Sox and Indians. They could definitely make it four straight, but that’s going to have to come with a win on Sunday. Milwaukee is a great bounce back team and will take Saturday’s contest although Sunday will be iffy.
