It’s the “Peralta Bowl” when Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta takes the mound against Wily Peralta and the Tigers. The Brewers are huge -200 favorites in this one, but you have to wonder when they start shifting down heading towards the playoffs. Milwaukee has a 14 game lead in the NL Central and have still rattled off wins in 7 of their last 8.
Detroit is no slouch coming into this matchup, taking 2 of 3 from the Rays over the weekend – Tampa Bay being another 1st place team that looks past the Tigers at this point in the season. Detroit cashed out at +145 and +134 vs. TB over the weekend, can they do it again on Tuesday?
You’d think Milwaukee would be ripe to dropping a game or two down the stretch considering they don’t have a ton to play for over the past three weeks of the season. It’s a matter of minutes before the Brewers clinch the NL Central, and they seem highly unlikely to capture home field from either the Giants or Dodgers.
The thing is, Craig Counsell is the type of manager that doesn’t let his team get complacent and it’s shown with the Brewers 36-16 over their last 52 games overall. That includes a sweep in Cleveland over the weekend and winning series’ St. Louis, Philadelphia, and the Giants over the last couple weeks.
Detroit will avoid Corbin Burnes this series after he pitched on Friday, but Brandon Woodruff is expected back Wednesday (illness). That being said, Freddy Peralta (9-4, 2.69 ERA) is no slouch on Tuesday night.
Peralta also doesn’t completely look like himself after missing August 18th to September 3rd with shoulder inflammation. Peralta has allowed 5 ER in two starts since returning from the IL, but only going 2.0 and 3.2 innings in those outings.
Detroit doesn’t have a ton to play for over the last month of the season, but perhaps that’s one of the things that has made them so dangerous over the past couple weeks. Starting on September 1st the Tigers have split two games with Oakland, taken 2 of 3 in Cincinnati and then grabbed two of three against the Rays over the past weekend.
The only time you don’t want to back Detroit lately is when they have a good chance to win, as evidenced by the team dropping 2 of 3 to Pittsburgh last week. Being favored is not a problem Tuesday night, when the Tigers come into the series as +165 underdogs.
There are still a lot of reasons to like Detroit on Tuesday night, mostly Peralta being on a pitch count for Milwaukee as he returns from injury. The Tigers offense has also found itself lately, plating 20 runs over the last three games against Tampa Bay’s #9 pitching staff in the MLB.
Of course Wily Peralta has to hold up his end of the bargain as the Tigers’ starter on Tuesday. Much like his counterpart across the diamond, Peralta has missed time lately with a blister, but has allowed just 3 ER over 8.0 IP in two starts since returning.

Free Milwaukee Brewers vs. Detroit Tigers MLB Prediction:
Normally this would look like an open and shut case for the Brewers, but there’s something about the Tigers coming into this matchup. For one, the Brewers don’t need any games down the stretch and could easily slip up on any given night. Two, Peralta is working his way back from an injury and will likely only throw 3-4 innings max.
