Neither of these teams are good, sitting in 4th and 5th respectively in the NL Central and well out of the playoff picture.
Both teams do have some bright spots for the rebuild and some decent trade chips heading into the deadline at month end.
Milwaukee Brewers
Matt Garza was once a good starting pitcher in the MLB for a long period of time, the best of his career coming in 2011 with the Cubs when he racked up 197 K’s and had a 3.32 ERA.
The past few seasons, his ERA has kicked around the mid-5’s and WHIP above 1.5, so expecting more from the 32 year-old may be a mistake at this point.
With the deadline looming, the big questions for the Brew Crew will be whether they deal their big name stars such as Ryan Braun, Jonathan Lucroy and Jonathan Villar.
Braun holds a .312 average with 13 homers and 7 steals coming out of the Allstar break, Lucroy with .304 and 11 HRs, and Villar leads the league in steals with 31 to go along with a .298 average.
Cincinnati Reds
Anthony Desclafani has built upon his strong 2015 season since returning from the DL in early June. One the year, he’s earned a 2.23 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with a 3-0 record and 29 strikeouts in 36.1 innings.
He appears to be a nice rotation piece moving forward for the rebuilding Reds team.
