Milwaukee opens a three-game series against Baltimore Friday night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM ET, with the Brewers bringing baseball’s best record at 95-58 into Baltimore. The Orioles sit at 75-78 but aren’t dead in the Wild Card chase yet.
Milwaukee arrives after dropping Thursday’s series finale 7-4 in Pittsburgh. The Brewers still took two of three from the Pirates and have already wrapped up their fourth consecutive NL Central championship.
Milwaukee has already clinched its division; Baltimore is still checking the Wild Card standings between pitches.
The Orioles have considerably more September urgency. Baltimore swept the Mets in New York and has won three straight, keeping its slim postseason hopes alive entering the final nine games.
That’s a pretty dramatic improvement over where this season appeared headed.
Baltimore remains fifth in the AL East, but the Wild Card door hasn’t completely slammed shut. Unfortunately, the team walking through it Friday happens to own 95 wins.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Baltimore Orioles Odds & Last 5
Milwaukee opened as the road favorite, with the Brewers around -142 and Baltimore approximately +119 to +120. The total is 8.5 runs, which remains the important number for this matchup.
The Brewers have won four of their last five despite Thursday’s loss.
Milwaukee took three straight before Pittsburgh finally stopped the run in the series finale. The Brewers collected nine hits and six walks Thursday but went only 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11, so opportunities weren’t exactly the problem.
Baltimore enters from the opposite direction.
The Orioles swept three games from the Mets, including two tight one-run victories before completing the job Wednesday. With the postseason window getting awfully small, Baltimore picked a convenient week to remember how to win close baseball games.
The teams haven’t met this season.
Milwaukee took two of three from Baltimore in their 2025 series. This time the stakes are different, with the Brewers chasing the top overall seed while the Orioles are trying to keep their Wild Card pulse going.
Orioles Stats
Baltimore’s offense hasn’t been among baseball’s elite, but Pete Alonso has supplied plenty of damage in the middle of the order. He’s hitting .267 with 37 home runs and 102 RBIs, leading the Orioles in both power categories.
Gunnar Henderson remains another major threat.
Henderson has 23 homers and 86 runs scored, giving Baltimore a second established power bat around Alonso. The Orioles don’t need a lineup full of monsters when those two start getting traffic in front of them.
Alonso has 37 homers and 102 RBIs, so Baltimore still has somebody capable of ruining a pitcher’s evening quickly.
The pitching staff has been considerably less convincing.
Baltimore carries a team ERA around 4.14 into Friday, and the rotation has taken another hit with Kyle Bradish landing on the injured list. Cade Povich is expected to move into his spot for the opener, although MLB still listed Baltimore’s starter as TBD early Friday.
The Orioles are also dealing with several important injuries.
Jackson Holliday went on the injured list this week with left wrist inflammation, joining a group of unavailable Baltimore regulars. That leaves Alonso and Henderson carrying even more responsibility during a stretch where the Orioles have very little room left for a losing streak.

Milwaukee has reached 95 wins with one of baseball’s most complete statistical profiles. The Brewers are hitting around .259 with a .342 on-base percentage, consistently creating traffic without relying entirely on home runs.
Jake Bauers has supplied plenty of those anyway.
Bauers leads Milwaukee with 26 home runs and owns a .394 on-base percentage. Brice Turang has driven in a team-high 93 runs while scoring 96, giving the Brewers production from several different spots in the order.
The pitching has been even better.
Milwaukee owns a 3.58 team ERA, one of the best marks in baseball. That staff has helped carry the Brewers to the NL Central title and the best record in the majors despite dealing with several pitching injuries.
Thursday was a reminder that even this staff can wobble.
Pittsburgh scored five times in the second inning against Kyle Harrison and eventually won 7-4. Milwaukee’s bullpen settled things down afterward, but the early hole was too deep despite plenty of late baserunners.
Now Dustin May gets the opener in Baltimore. He arrives with a 7-9 record, 4.49 ERA and 133 strikeouts, numbers that haven’t always matched the dominant pitching around him.

Dustin May is listed by MLB as Milwaukee’s starter for Friday’s opener. He’s 7-9 with a 4.49 ERA and 133 strikeouts, giving the Brewers an experienced right-hander but not necessarily the shutdown profile their overall pitching numbers suggest.
May’s season has included enough traffic to make clean innings valuable.
He has generally been more effective when keeping the ball on the ground and avoiding free passes. Against an Orioles lineup built around Alonso and Henderson, putting extra runners aboard before the middle of the order is a fairly efficient way to make 8.5 feel smaller.
May is confirmed for Milwaukee, while Baltimore’s side of the pitching matchup still carries a little Friday-morning fine print.
Cade Povich is expected to take Bradish’s vacated rotation spot, but Baltimore had not officially confirmed him through MLB’s probable-pitcher listing early Friday. Povich is 2-1 with a 4.05 ERA and 25 strikeouts in limited major-league work this season.
That distinction matters this late in September.
Baltimore is juggling an injured rotation while trying to stay alive in the Wild Card race. Milwaukee, meanwhile, can attack a projected starter who hasn’t accumulated anything close to May’s workload this season.
