The Florida Marlins are set to take on the Milwaukee Brewers for the first second time this season and both teams have a lot to lose in this one. Not only is that evident by the Marlins still being two games out of the lead in the NL East, but also due to the Brewers needing to maintain their dominance in the NL Central.
This leaves both seams jockeying for position in their respective divisions, which will be interesting to watch play out. Of course, the Brewers recently shut out the 10-11 Chicago Cubs last week, giving them a slight advantage, but there are still quite a few factors at play that could end up making this team a toss-up
That’s why the betters are going to want to consider all the factors and make an informed decision before placing their money down on a particular team. In fact, with the Brewers and Marlins already meeting in a Monday night matchup, this game could come down to things like pitching, conditioning, and the all-important firepower that both teams wield.
Florida Marlins
The Florida Marlins are 2-3 in their last five matchups (not including their Monday night game) and are 4-6 in their last ten games. The big story here though is their lack of offense in the last couple of games this season, making them a sitting duck against stronger teams.
In fact, between only managing 8 hits in their game against the Giants and giving up a total of 13 runs in their last five games, there is much to be desired here. Then again, they did score 14 points of their own during that same span but were never able to close out games effectively.
For example, The Marlins did rally in the final two innings of their game against the San Francisco Giants but still came up short 4-3 on Sunday evening. The Marlins also held an early lead against the Giants during their game last Friday but gave up 3 scores in the eighth inning of the game.
That means pitching will also be a big factor, which could be bad news for the Marlins as well with a pitcher like Daniel Castano, who is 0-1 as a starter and has an ERA of 3.60.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers are 4-1 in their last five matchups( not including Monday’s game against the Marlins) and stand at 7-3 in their last ten. Now, a lot of this has had to do with their high-scoring offense, who torched many of their opponents by several runs. Add in a pitcher like Adrian Houser that has 12 strikeouts already this season and the Brewers obviously stand at an advantage here.
What also gives the Brewers an advantage is the fact they have outscored opponents 22-18 in their last five games. While that might not sound like the best stat to put here, one has to remember that a majority of the points scored against them is from their 15-2 loss to the Cubs on April 2nd.
If you take out that game, however, the Brewers stand at a much better scoring record of 20-5, making them look like a much stronger team. Furthermore, between batters like Kolton Wong, who has four runs, seven hits, and 2 RBI, and a strong pitching rotation, it might be a mistake to bet against the Brewers here.
MLB betting trends
- The Miami Marlins are 5-5 this season in away games.
Free Miami Marlins vs Milwaukee Brewers MLB Prediction:
This game is going to come down to two things and that’s pitching and batting. On the pitching side of the things, Adrian Houser seems like the better of the two matchups, especially with 12 strikeouts and a slightly lower ERA than Daniel Castano, making him the Brewers a more steady pick.
With that being said, however, the aforementioned similarities in ERA between the two pitches seem to point to this being a close game. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen and will depend on what batting rotation each side goes with, but it wouldn’t be the dumbest idea to bet the spread here.
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: Miami Marlins against the spread
As much as it looks like the Brewers could blow away the Marlins in short order, one has to remember that both teams will only be 24 hours removed from each other. Between that and similarities in their pitching matchup, expect the Marlins to keep in close and win on the spread.
For those looking for the straight-up, that would obviously go to the Milwaukee Brewers, who are an offensive force to be reckoned with. Seriously though, with Kolton Wong, Omar Navarez, and Manny Pina, at bat is just too much for the Marlins to overcome here.
