The Miami Marlins will take a large jump in elevation as they travel to Colorado to take on the Rockies for a weekend series.
Neither team is contending for the playoffs at this point in the season but will look to build off series wins.
Miami Marlins
Miami is still in last place in the pathetic NL East division, trailing New York by 9.5 games. The Marlins are 14.5 games back of the second Wild Card spot in the NL, so their playoff hopes relies on winning the division.
First baseman Jesus Aguilar 19 HR’s and 96 hits total. Shortstop Miguel Rojas has been a consistent hitter with a .267 average on 86 hits.
The Marlins dealt home run leader Adam Duvall back to the Braves at the trade deadline.
Colorado Rockies
The Rockies enter Friday 4th in the NL West, 21 games behind the league best San Francisco Giants for the top spot in the division. In the NL wild card race, the team stands 14 games behind the Padres for the second wild card spot.
Despite hosting the All-Star weekend, the Rockies were not represented in the game by any players. The last time they sent any players were in 2018.
Even though there was a lot of buzz around shortstop Trevor Story at the deadline the Rockies decided to hold onto him even with his impending free agency this offseason.
2B Ryan McMahon has been the big bat for Colorado this year, leading the team with 17 HR’s and 56 RBI’s.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- Marlins are 47-62 overall
- Marlins are 20-35 on the road
- Colorado is 48-61 overall
- Colorado is 35-21 at home
Miami Marlins vs. Colorado Rockies MLB Prediction:
These teams have very drastic home/road splits coming into this series. Colorado has been fantastic at Coors Field. It makes sense, as the altitude makes it one of the toughest places to play.
It usually takes teams a few days to get accustomed to the altitude. Miami had to play on Thursday afternoon, so it will not have much time to get adjusted.
The Marlins also shipped away some key power in their lineup at the trade deadline, while Colorado kept their big bats.
I expect the Rockies to handle business in the series opener on Friday.
