Cincinnati Reds
Cincinnati has tracked down San Diego and remains virtually tied with the Padres for the 2nd NL wildcard. Six wins in nine contests -including two recent victories over Miami- have placed the Reds among the hotter National League offenses.
The Reds add 5.06 rpg and found five runs in their 5-3 RL and SU Friday win over the Marlins. Results to Saturday’s game aren’t available, but in spite of that momentum, facing Alcantara could prove dicey in a quick afternoon turnaround.
Rookie of the year candidate Vladimir Gutierrez gets the starting nod today for Cincinnati. Gutierrez stands 8-4 with a 3.87 ERA, but has struggled at home going 2-3 with a 5.35 earned run average fron Great American Ballpark.
Gutierrez has allowed just five runs in his past 25.1 innings, so Miami will likely struggle to generate early offense. However, the Marlins have a much better shot of exploiting Cincinnati’s near NL-worst bullpen.
