Miami scored seven despite losing on a ninth-inning walk-off, continuing a stretch in which its offense has become much more dangerous. The Marlins have scored at least four runs in six of their last seven games, including 17 over their last three.
Arizona has plenty of incentive to keep pushing offensively with a Wild Card spot still within reach. The Diamondbacks erased a three-run deficit late Monday, and Corbin Carroll’s walk-off homer showed how quickly this lineup can flip a game.
I want both lineups involved when I’m laying 8.5, and Monday showed exactly that.
Miami’s bullpen has been asked to handle some important innings lately, while Arizona needed six relievers in the opener. That creates another path toward scoring if either starter leaves before the late innings.
I’m not expecting another 15-run explosion, and I don’t need one. Nine runs gets us home, and both clubs have enough lineup depth to keep producing even if one side starts slowly.
