After a thrilling 3 – 1 9th inning walk-off win for the Dodgers on Wednesday night over the St. Louis Cardinals, a pair of familiar NL West foes go at it again for the right to reach the NLCS.
Walker Buehler and Logan Webb have been assigned the starting pitcher duties for this rivalry series that will hopefully provide an epic storyline for 2021. Who doesn’t love a good, old-fashioned rivalry to keep America’s pastime glowing with excitement?
Buckle up, baby, because there is no script and history is all that is on the line now. Amazingly, this is the first time we have seen these two against each other in the post-season in the modern era. I don’t know where you were in 1889 when they actually met for the World Series title as other named franchises, but let’s say none of us have ever seen this before who 9th are actually alive LoL
READY? Set… Baseball!
Well, you can’t carry much more momentum into a big series than walking off the field as the Dodgers did on Wednesday night. Locked in a heated, low-scoring game all night with Scherzer and Wainwright on the mound, it took until the final AB of the game to provide the fireworks.
Chris Taylor harmlessly batted 9th in the order after coming on a substitute in a double-switch. Taylor’s 6th post-season HR of his career sent the LA crowd into a frenzy and it also sent the Dodgers to San Francisco for this NLDS.
Dave Roberts made a similar call to Aaron Boone and what he did to Gerritt Cole the night before in the AL wildcard game that the Yankees ultimately lost to the Red Sox. Roberts pulled his ace after only 21 batters with men on base but it worked out for him as the bullpen for both teams was stellar. After only 4 1/3 IP Roberts came out to pull Scherzer and I thought Max was going to punch him in his face! Max was clearly pissed off about the move, but it worked out so they will likely let bygones be just that. Scherzer had only surrendered 3 hits all night but the walks were mounting up and Roberts obviously thought the move was the one to make.
The Dodgers and Giants basically split their season series with the Giants winning 10 of the 19 regular-season affairs.
Defense? Oh, you want to talk defense?
All right, well there sits the Dodgers at #1 in scoring (3.48 runs allowed), opponents average, (.207), and OPS (.624). the 9.91 Ks per game puts them at 3rd in all of MLB and only two other teams have allowed less HR than LA.
Oh, the offense? Yeah, okay let’s go there. The 5.14 runs a game lists them as 5th in MLB and the 1.47 bombs have this team in the 4th spot of the rankings
Experience! Can I put it out there that I took the Giants to win the NL West this season and I have everyone at my discord channel to prove it? Oh, yes, he did! I also have the Giants to win the NL and the big prop for this team to win the whole f**king kit and kaboodle, baby!
So, as soon as the season ended I cashed my NL West ticket and now we move to the next job at hand. I didn’t expect LA to be the team right away that they would face, but it all has to happen no matter who is across the diamond.
I honestly could not believe that these two don’t have any post-season history to speak of in our lifetime. Rivalries are usually built on not regular-season stuff alone but the playoffs too. So, I guess it has to start somewhere, right?
Logan Webb gets the series starting nod with his 11 – 3 record and ERA just under 3 for the year. Oh, in case you missed it? HE HASN’T LOST A GAME SINCE MAY 5th when the Rockies lit him up for 6 ER in a 6 – 5 defeat.
That is 22 straight outings without taking an L, and that is just stupid. He has only given up 9 bombs knowing the importance of keeping the ball in the park, although he obviously gets a lot of starts in pitcher’s parks. Not to mention, this season has been a great year for starting pitchers with so many batting averages being dismal around all of MLB. He is also 6 – 0 at Oracle Park which is likely why Gabe Kapler decided to go with him for game 1 of such an important series.

Free Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Prediction:
I could go on and write 1500 words in my sleep about all of this stuff happening, but I will limit myself to what you see. Regardless, I have to go G-Men to try to get up on my Giants NL winning prop bet pending hoping that Webb continues his success pitching in this park. Oh, did I mention the plus money on my dog at +105?
