I have 2 full pages of notes from game 4 and I am supposed to leave these articles at a reasonable amount of words? Well, I will do my best because what a night it was in LA as the Dodger Stadium crowd got to celebrate one win from their 2 home games that now forces a huge game 5 at the Oracle!
Starting for the Giants? Your game 1 winner, Logan Webb, completely shut down the Dodgers through 7 2/3 with 10K in a 4 – 0 home win to open the NLDS.
Starting for the Dodgers? Jose Urias, who looked just as stellar in his game 2 victory that helped get the Dodgers even at 1 – 1 before leaving Oracle Park.
With Wednesday off, the two teams have a second to catch their breathe and prepare for their biggest playoff outing in their rich history. Not only do next year’s bragging rights come with the win in game 5, but the victor gets one step closer to hoisting a big-ass trophy when the last game of the year is played.
Playoffs? Playoffs? You’re talkin’ bout, playoffs? This is going to be epic!
Los Angeles Dodgers
Game 4 was all Dodgers and I should have listened to myself when I gave out my game 3 preview. I said I expected this series to go 5 games but when the Giants took game 3 over Max Scherzer I thought the momentum would carry over and San Fran would just finish it instead.
So, that is not the case and we indeed have a game 5 situation to decide who plays the Braves in the NLCS. I think the Dodgers just hit another baseball because if the I5 is considered busy the basepaths were just as busy for the Dodgers in the 7 – 2 game 4 win.
If you missed game 4? My goodness, it seemed like if you looked away from the screen the Dodgers had one man, two men, to sometimes all three bags filled up in the first 5 innings. The Dodgers scored 5 runs, left 9 on base, and scored in 4 of the first 5 stanzas. The only inning they didn’t score was the 3rd and they left the bases loaded then!
Bellinger had two hits for the first time since August 25th and Mookie Betts had 3 RBIs but the story was Walker Buehler. After the game, you saw the interview in which Buehler was asked about asking for the ball in game 4 even on short rest.
He confirmed he convinced Dave Roberts that he was the guy that should be on the bump in this spot and now that gives Urias the big moment. Pretty nice to have your potential Cy Young candidate expressing enough confidence to say give me the ball!!
The spotlight will be on the 24-year old who already has 7 post-season wins to his credit in his young MLB career.
San Francisco Giants
Tired legs? RIght, I mean it seemed like the smartest thing Ron Darlins said all night was how long the Giants defense was on their feet in the field for game 4. IT seemed like the Dodgers were just up, and putting men on, and up again, and getting men on with 537 pitching changes coming while they stood on the diamond losing a big game.
The Giants blew their shot to take advantage of beating Max Scherzer in Game 3 only to lose game 4 in ugly fashion.
Gabe Kapler pulling Anthony Desclafani after only 1 2/3 innings really just blew the doors off the bullpen. Usually, a sturdy bunch that Kapler can rely on, he asked his guys to do a little too much on Tuesday night and they simply couldn’t do enough in a 7 – 2 loss.
By the same token, the offense didn’t exactly look good and it also looks like Tommy LaStella will be out of the lineup for the Giants. He tweaked his Achillies injury on a deflected ground ball and he came right out of the game gimping on that leg. We can only assume his presence will only be in a pinch-hit situation late in the game if that.
Again, I have a boatload of notes to go over here, and so much of it happened before the end of the 5th inning.
Kapler better just hope that Webb even comes close to replicating his game 1 outing because if the Dodgers get to him early? I might be asked to pitch the 9th inning for the Giants if they blow their pen again.
Hey, it is obvious this is a all-hands on deck situation, and the season is on the line with 1 game left to play right now, So, suck it up, Buttercup! There is no tired enough to have to watch the rest of the playoffs from home.
How is this for some scary shit? Doug Eddings is behind the dish for a game with two of the best pitchers in baseball. Oh, here, let me highlight his name as a link for you to go to his wiki page and tell what it starts with?
Too lazy? Okay, Ej is nice to you! And I quote … “A report in The Hardball Times listed Eddings as having called the largest strike zone among all Major League umpires in 2011.”
And that is only going to be on the file again 10 years later in the biggest game for both of these rivals they have ever played against each other. The right to face Atlanta in the NLCS!

Free Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Prediction:
I like the Giants to provide enough at home with Webb on the mound despite how the LA bats have really looked comfortable in their two wins. Remember, this team has been shut out twice and gone off twice, so this could go either way, obviously.
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: Giants -105 ML
The play is on the Giants to take the series and yes, these two pitchers made both offenses look bad in their respective starts. Elimination games, baby, and too much can happen when there is this much pressure on only two pitchers and 16 other players who want to come up big and be a hero.
Two pitchers against all of these bats for this big of a game? 4 – 4 going to the 9th and let’s see if they into extras because that would be f**king awesome!
I get that Eddings is a pitcher’s umpire too, but these two offenses have the ability to go off at any time. It is just a hunch but I think we see a 5 – 4 Giants win in the 10th.
