There isn’t a playoff race here, but somebody still has to finish this season with a few wins.
The Athletics are 61-95 and return home after getting swept in Cleveland. Jack Perkins gave them six strong innings Sunday, but the offense produced only four hits in a 1-0 loss.
Oakland leads the season series 6-5.
That makes Tuesday the 12th meeting between these AL West rivals, with neither side exactly arriving on a victory parade.

Yusei Kikuchi hasn’t had a good season, but he’s still the more established starter in this matchup. Brady Basso has worked mostly in shorter outings, so Oakland could be asking plenty from its bullpen.
Two bad teams at nearly even money means I’m looking for the smaller collection of problems.
The Angels also have Zach Neto and enough power to punish an Oakland staff that has struggled badly with the long ball. Los Angeles has dropped three of five, but it did take two games from Minnesota before Sunday’s 8-0 dud.
Oakland owns a 6-5 edge in the season series, so I’m not pretending the Angels have dominated this matchup.
At basically pick’em, though, I’ll side with Kikuchi and the slightly better pitching staff.
