Dodgers manager Dave Roberts threw his own little curveball on Saturday when he decided to go with Knebel in game 1 of the ALCS. Knebel only went 1 inning and started game 5 against San Francisco where he also only pitched a single inning.
Max Fried went for the Braves and he ended the night going 6 innings with 8 hits allowed giving up 2 earned runs. Fried also struck out 5 and didn’t walk a batter and we didn’t even see the first walk of the game until the top of the 9th inning from either team.
Brian Snitker threw his own surprise at the Dodgers when he put Eddie Rosario in the leadoff spot for Game 1. Rosario had only batted in the opening slot once in his career which came back on September 2nd this year.
The move must have created enough spark to land the Braves the first run of the ALCS when Rosario singled to lead off the game. After stealing second he advanced to third on a ground ball and a wild pitch sent him across the plate to make it 1 – 0 Atlanta.
Little did we know how game 1 would unfold at the time, but Austin Riley tied the game at 1 with a solo blast in the top of the 2nd inning. Riley ended the night with a single in the 9th to walk off the Braves who took game 1, 3 – 2.
Oh, you’re welcome for giving you the Braves on Saturday night!
LA Dodgers
The Dodgers will officially be going with Max Scherzer for game 2. It was thought that even though he closed out the NLDS with his first career save that he could possibly get the Game 1 NLCS nod. He did not and now the Dodgers are down a game in the NLCS after Riley’s walk-off hit… The 11th of its kind in Atlanta’s history.
Scherzer had a fantastic split=season with Washington and the Dodgers, and his 15 – 4 among other stats have him in contention for the Cy Young Award. That announcement will come on November 10th but that is last thing from his mind right now.
The Dodgers are one of the best road teams in baseball and it obviously did them well taking 2 of the 3 games in San Francisco to advance to the NLCS. Los Angeles won 50 games away from home in 2021, and we’re still checking to see if the Diamondbacks or Orioles even won 50 games the entire season!
Impressive as it is, this team lost game 1 of the NLDS so they know how to rebound as well as any team in baseball. You never know which bat in this lineup is going to spark a rally because there is plenty of power and speed to create havoc for any starting pitcher.
Will Smith led all catchers with 25 over the regular season and he hit his 3rd post-season HR of his career in game 1 to give the Dodgers a 2 – 1 lead at the time on Saturday night. I went over the Dodgers offensive and defensive rankings in my preview for game 1 of the NLCS. If you should know this team is #1 in all of baseball in more categories than you can shake a bat at, so this series is just getting started.
Atlanta Braves
Mississippi native and life-long Braves fan had his childhood dream come true on Saturday night! Austin Riley grew up loving this team and now he got to etch his name in the Braves history book driving in the winning run in game 1 of the 2021 NLCS.
The Braves are now 16 – 3 over the last 19 games and momentum is certainly on their side. After wiping out the Brewers in 4 games, the Braves are now 4 – 1 in the post-season and they’ll send Ian Anderson to the bump for game 2. Anderson pitched a gem in his only playoff start against Milwaukee, albeit a 5 inning outing with only 3 hits allowed and 6 Ks.
Anderson made one start against LA during the regular season and he was unable to escape the 5th inning. It was actually a strange start because he gave up 4 ER but only gave up one single hit and it wasn’t even a bomb.
Anderson may have put up a decent performance in his NLDS start but this is a game the Dodgers want and need. That is a scary proposition even with the Braves being 16 – 3 their last 19 games.
No, this team has no fear of the Dodgers, but I expect Betts and Seager to have a major impact in game 2. Wait for it!

Free LA Dodgers vs. Atlanta Braves MLB NLCS Game 2 Prediction:
I like the Dodgers to win game 2 but at -150+ I have an issue. You would not find me dead laying $50 worth of juice for any damn play I will ever make. So, I send you to this total and you should hit the Dodgers team total as well.
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: Over 7
The play is the Dodgers Team Total Over and the Over 7 because it will be 8 – 2 Dodgers. I am not a fan of laying multiple runs because that can be tricky too. This is the playoffs and a 1-run game can surely come in this spot too. I just see LA bashing a ball around to get back in the series.
