A pair of struggling American League teams take the field to finish up a series on the diamond down in the Lone Star State. The Kansas City Royals are on the road as they play the final game of a three-game series with the Texas Rangers Thursday night.
In the opening game of the series Tuesday night, it was the Rangers drawing first blood as they earned a 6-4 victory.
Emmanuel Riviera broke the game open with a bases clearing triple in the 9th inning, as Kansas City rolled to an easy 8-2 win over Texas Wednesday.
Kansas City Royals
The Royals took a loss on Monday afternoon losing 6-1 in Baltimore. They at least were able to split a doubleheader on Sunday winning the first game 6-4 and losing the second game 2-4.
The Royals have yet to officially name a starter but multiple sources are pointing toward Jon Heasley to get the call up from the minors to make his season debut in this contest.
He made six starts so far this season for Triple-A Omaha of the International League, posting a 1-0 record, a 4.44 ERA, a 0.949 WHIP, six walks and 30 strikeouts over 26.1 innings of work.
As a team, the Royals are 12th in batting average against lefties this season at .234. Another spin on it, the Royals are 26th in slugging against lefties this season. They seem to be hitting lefties well, but they aren’t getting extra base hits. Salvador Perez has been torching left handed pitchers this season hitting .407 with a homerun and 4 runs batted in. Look at taking some hits+runs+RBIs overs for Perez in this match-up.
Texas Rangers
Just like the Royals, the Rangers lost on Monday afternoon 1-0 and ended up losing the series after splitting a doubleheader on Sunday. They were held to just two hits Monday against the Yankees.
Taylor Hearn is slated to be on the mound for the Rangers in this contest as he makes his sixth start of the season in this one. He comes in 1-2 with a 6.53 ERA, a 1.839 WHIP, 10 walks and 24 strikeouts over 20.2 innings of work this season.
The Rangers as a team rank 26th in batting average with a .208 average against righties so far this season. Nathaniel Lowe is leading the Rangers in hitting vs righties hitting .297 with a homerun and 7 runs batted in.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- Royals are 7-6 ATS on the road
- Royals O/U are 7-5-1 on the road
- Rangers are 7-8 ATS at home
- Rangers O/U are 7-7-1 at home
Kansas City Royals vs. Texas Rangers MLB Prediction:
The pitching matchup leaves something to be desired in this contest as neither starting pitcher does much to move the needle. That could open up things offensively but from a side perspective, it makes things a bit shakier of a proposition.
Heasley has his work cut out for him at this point and the Royals have struggled to put things together with any consistency in the first month of the season.
Hearn struggled early on in the season but he is coming off a win in his last outing as the Rangers downed the Braves.
I’d give the slight edge to Texas in this one.
