These teams met a week ago in Houston with the Astros sweeping a short two-game series.
Houston Astros
The Astros had the New York Yankees in trouble in Sunday’s finale of the four-game weekend series. They were on the brink of taking a 3-1 series victory over the No. 1 team in baseball at Yankee Stadium.
Houston kept the loaded New York line up hitless for 16 innings straight before surrounding homeruns late and the lead slept away after the 7th inning. Aaron Judge hit a walk-off homer in the 10th inning to split the series.
The Astros are clearly still one of the most talented defensive teams in the league, but they’re going to run into those high-powered offensive teams that they’ll have to match on the scoreboard.
Framber Valdez will try to make life easier when starting on the mound on Tuesday. Houston’s left-handed pitcher is throwing a 2.90 ERA with a 7-3 record on the season.
New York Mets
The New York Mets enter this series after grabbing a 2-1 advantage over the Miami Marlins over the weekend. New York still maintains the best record in the National League despite two of the best pitchers in baseball (DeGrom and Scherzer) out on injury.
New York has one of the best offenses in baseball and have been a key contributor to their success. They’re averaging 8.74 hits and 4.93 runs per game which is the second best in the league for both categories.
The good news for New York is the fact that Carrasco is delivering his best performances at Citi Field, where he’s unbeaten this season. He’s throwing a 4.42 ERA with 77 strikeouts to his name and a 1.29 WHIP. A head-to-head matchup with Framber Valdez will be a tall task for the 35-year-old veteran.

The Astros left-handed starter has a 1.95 ERA and a 4-1 record, while retiring 45 batters, when playing away from Minute Maid Park. Valdez has been the traveling Boogeyman on the road, and he’ll be looking to become a nightmare for the Mets.
With Carrasco returning from his back issues, it’s hard to know how he’ll react when staring down an Astros batting lineup that should be hitting with confidence after splitting even with the New York Yankees.
