The Los Angeles Angels will play host to the Houston Astros for a four game series starting on Monday night from Angel Stadium.
These teams have met 17 times this season with the Astros taking 12 of the matchups.
Marwin González launched a grand slam and the Astros moved closer to the AL West title with a 10-0 victory over the Angels on Monday.
Ohtani hit his 45th homer in the 8th inning, but Aledmys Díaz and Kyle Tucker hit back-to-back homers and drove in three runs apiece while leading the Astros to a 10-5 victory over the Angels on Tuesday night.
Houston Astros
The Astros took a season off from their dominance over the AL West but have used 2021 to pick things back up. They enter a handful of games ahead of the Athletics and look more and more likely to clinch the division sooner rather than later.
They’ve gone 7-3 in their last ten games and have played some of their best baseball of late. Houston sits with the second-best record in the American League and they know the importance of continuing to find wins so that they can stay in the race for the playoffs.
Houston ranks first in runs per game, batting average, and hits per game, and a strong offense is a key reason why many see them as a possible World Series contender. Even ranking 11th in home runs per game has helped them quite a bit stay ahead of the competition.
Even despite the injuries to Tucker and Brantley, the offense continues to be on fire. Jose Altuve leads the way with a .385 batting average, while Yuli Gurriel is right on his heels, hitting .375 over the last week.
Los Angeles Angels
The Angels started the season looking like they might finally make a break back into the playoffs. Those dreams quickly faded as injuries to some of their best players derailed any hope. Mike Trout (calf) has missed most of the season, Dexter Fowler (knee) was forced onto the IL within a few weeks of the season starting, and Anthony Rendon (hamstring), has hardly played himself.
Add that to Jo Adell (abdominal), Dylan Bundy (shoulder), and Justin Upton (back) getting added to the season-ending injury list over the last few weeks, and the Angels have never quite been healthy.
Without a host of their top offensive threats for much for the season, the Angels’ offensive numbers are better than one would imagine. They only rank 18th in baseball in runs per game, which is even worse considering they rank tenth in batting average and eighth in hits per game.
Shohei Ohtani leads the way with a .250 average over the last week but his numbers have dipped the second half of the season and without his production, the Angels, in general, have found their offensive numbers struggling.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- Astros are 90-61 overall
- Astros are 43-33 on the road
- Angels are 72-79 overall
- Angels are 38-39 at home
Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels MLB Prediction:
While the Angels continue to see their stars and starters drop to the injury bug and get added to the IL, the Astros have almost their full complement of position players available for Wednesday’s game.
Even when on the road, Houston is still scoring nearly five runs per game, and their pitching set up to potentially make it a bullpen game should bode well for taking down Los Angeles’ lineup.
For Houston, their lineup is filled with experience and guys who are hitting over .300 over the last week, and with the home run power as well slowly growing, the Astros will have no issues taking down the Angels on the road.
I’m taking the Astros in an easy one.
