The Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox will play game two of their four-game set this Tuesday evening from Guaranteed Rate Field. A big 8th inning from the White Sox led to them stealing last night’s matchup.

The Astros will open up as the favorites here on the road, with the total opening at 7. We’ll receive a battle of aces when Justin Verlander and Dylan Cease face off in the Southside.

Houston Astros

Houston enters into this one with a record of 75-41, going 7-3 over their last ten games. The Astros currently sit atop the AL West, an they’ve posted a 36-23 record at home this season. Houston is 61-55 against the spread this season, with an over-under record of 44-69-3.

Justin Verlander will get the road start for Houston here. The 2x Cy Young winner has returned to the mound with a vengeance this season and added another hall of fame chapter to this career. The 18-year veteran has been lights out this summer, posting an impressive 15-3 record, with a 1.85 ERA, and 134 strikeouts.

JV has recorded a win in seven of his last nine starts, with the lone lost coming to this White Sox team at Minute Maid park. Look for Verlander to get his old division foes back with a strong performance in the Southside tonight.

Houston has taken a step back this season at the plate, with the absence of Michael Brantley glaring. The Astros have still been solid, ranking 3rd in home runs (159) and 5th in slugging percentage (.425). Kyle Tucker has really had it going as of late and he’s bringing a six-game hit streak into this one.

 

Chicago White Sox

Chicago comes into this one with a record of 59-56, going 6-4 over their last ten games. The White Sox currently sit 3rd the AL Central, an they’ve posted a 36-23 record at home this season. Chicago is 51-64 against the spread this season, with an over-under record of 52-55-8.

Dylan Cease will get the call from Tony La Russ this Tuesday. The White Sox’ ace has arguably been their lone reliable arm this season, and he, like his hall of fame counterpart for this one, is enjoying a Cy Young-worthy campaign himself.

Cease has posted a 12-5 record, with a 1.96 ERA and 174 strikeouts and he’s been dealing since the start of July, going 6-2, while only giving up six runs through eight starts.

The White Sox have underwhelmed at the plate this season, due to a slew of injuries altering their roster. Chicago has still shown command at the plate, ranking fourth in the league in batting average (.259). Jose Abreu remains a steady presence in the lineup, hitting .300, with 14 home runs and 56 RBIs.
