National League clubs meet on Tuesday as the Chicago Cubs host the Colorado Rockies.
Colorado has won two of three meetings this year vs. Chicago.
The Rockies’ five-game winning streak ended Sunday as Arizona lifted an 8-4 victory to avoid being swept. Nonetheless, Colorado is showing positive signs while taking six of its last eight outings.
It must be noted, however, that only one of those six wins came away from Coors Field. Further, the Rockies hold the largest discrepancy between home (43) and road (14) wins in Major League Baseball. Benefiting from thin mountain air, the Rockies lead MLB in home offense, but rank last in away runs generated.
It should be interesring to see how Colorado bats travel opposite trade-deadline gutted Chicago.
Recent All Star German Marquez opens tonight for Colorado. The 6’1, 230-lb right hander is 11-9 with a 3.80 earned run average, and ranks among the top hitters at his position with one home run and five RBI.
Marquez has won three of his last four starts to aid Colorado’s recent fortunes. The Rockies are 15-10 this season when Marquez appears.
Hit by injuries and uninspired play, Chicago brass finally disassembled a once-successful core at the recent trade deadline. Now firmly among MLB’s lesser offerings, the Cubs stand 3-17 since August began.
Kansas City outscored Chicago 19-5 this weekend to sweep the Cubs and lower their stock before Colorado visits.
Rookie left-hander Justin Steele gets the starting call tonight for Chicago. After establishing their rebuild intentions, the Cubs will give Steele extended innings as he stands 2-2 with a 3.22 earned run average.
Normally a bullpen hand, Steele has allowed five runs, four walks, and recorded six strikeouts in his last nine innings. Those innings resulted in two starting losses vs. Milwaukee and Cincinnati.
Chicago is 3-10 when Steele appears, but the organization feels he is worth developing. His development could further hamper the Cubs’ immediate betting odds, however.

Free Colorado Rockies vs. Chicago Cubs MLB Prediction:
Colorado is a bad road team. No other MLB club enjoys greater natural home advantages that fade via travel more than the ‘mile high’ Rockies. That stated, Chicago is simply a bad team wherever the venue. With neither side holding playoff hopes, and offense likely at a premium, and German Marquez on the mound, lock in the Under here.
