Rockies vs. Braves Gameday
The Colorado Rockies travel to face the Atlanta Braves with these teams bringing very different records and recent form into the matchup.
Colorado enters at 52-82 and has struggled to find consistent results, while Atlanta sits atop its division with a 79-55 record. The Braves are also riding a four-game winning streak, giving them plenty of momentum heading back onto their home field.
Atlanta is rolling into this matchup, while Colorado faces another difficult test away from home.
The Rockies recently picked up a win against the Nationals, but their 2-8 record over the last ten games shows how difficult this stretch has been. Atlanta has found its groove with four consecutive victories, including a tight 1-0 win over the Dodgers. The Braves have also swept all three meetings with Colorado this season.
Truist Park adds another challenge for the visiting Rockies, with Atlanta bringing an impressive 45-23 home record into this matchup.

Rockies vs. Braves Pitching Matchup
Tomoyuki Sugano takes the mound for the Colorado Rockies with a 12-7 record this season.
Sugano carries a 4.96 ERA, showing some inconsistency throughout his outings. However, his 71 strikeouts demonstrate that he can still put hitters away and work himself through difficult situations when needed.
His strong win-loss record suggests Sugano has regularly found ways to give Colorado opportunities to win despite that fluctuating ERA. Finding more consistency will be important as he takes on a dangerous Atlanta lineup at Truist Park.
Grant Holmes counters for the Atlanta Braves with an 8-5 record this season.
Holmes owns a 3.64 ERA, giving him a more stable pitching profile heading into this matchup. His 100 strikeouts also demonstrate his ability to keep opposing hitters uncomfortable and generate outs from the mound.
That consistency has been valuable for an Atlanta pitching staff performing well throughout the season. Holmes will look to keep that form going as the Braves try to extend both their current winning streak and recent dominance against Colorado.
Colorado Rockies vs. Atlanta Braves bottom line: Atlanta brings the stronger recent form, a major home-field edge and complete team balance into this matchup, while Colorado will need a much sharper road performance to change the direction of this series.

Rockies Braves Free Pick: Over 8.5
Here is my Rockies Braves free pick: Atlanta is swinging the bats well right now, and Colorado’s pitching problems give me little reason to expect that offense to cool down.
I’m looking over the number.
The Braves have won 4 of their last 5 games, with their offense doing plenty of damage during this strong stretch. Colorado has also gone over in 3 of its last 5, which fits this matchup nicely.
The bigger selling point is what happens when these teams get together. Their last 3 head-to-head meetings have all gone over, with Atlanta consistently finding ways to punish Rockies pitching. Runs haven’t been scarce.
Three straight overs between these clubs make another offensive night difficult for me to ignore.
Additionally, Colorado’s pitching issues give Atlanta a chance to handle a large portion of this number itself. The Rockies simply need to contribute enough to keep the scoreboard moving.
Can either staff slow things down for nine innings?
I’m willing to bet against it. However, this play doesn’t require both offenses to explode when Atlanta brings enough firepower to create crooked innings on its own.
My MLB betting system points to the Over 8.5, and I’m riding the recent head-to-head scoring trend for another game.
