Two pitchers who are very familiar with the opposing team meet on Wednesday in the series finale as the Indians and White Sox play a matinee affair.
Cleveland Indians
The Indians are hanging in there despite having two of their best players out, but this is still a big series finale.
The Tribe has stayed within striking distance despite Michael Brantley and Carlos Carrasco both being out. They’ve gotten some guys to step up in place, which has been huge for this team.
Jose Ramirez is one of those guys. Ramirez struggled in a full time role last year, but has flourished this year. Ramirez is hitting .293 with 3 homeruns and 18 RBIs thus far in what is a part time role. Despite the term, he still does see a lot of action, as he played both legs of the doubleheader on Monday and hit a homer in each game.
The Indians will send out Corey Kluber here. Kluber has been hit or miss this year. He’s pitched like he did last time out allowing 2 runs in 7.0 innings of work against one of the best offenses in Boston. However, there has been other times like the one against Houston where he didn’t make it out of the 3rd inning. Kluber has seen a lot of the White Sox and has faced Quintana a lot in his career.
Chicago White Sox
The White Sox continue to see their offseason acquisitions pay off.
Brett Lawrie and Todd Frazier both played a part in the Game 1 win on Monday afternoon. Lawrie broke the tie with a 3 run homer and Frazier contributed a homer himself. The duo has solidified the middle part of this lineup and have especially stepped up with Jose Abreu struggling a bit.
The Sox will send out Jose Quintana, who has been dominant against the Indians in his career. Quintana has been solid this year, sitting with a 5-3 record with an ERA of only 1.98. Quintana has dropped back to back outings though, losing to New York and Kansas City.
