The Reds and Pirates conclude a three-game series from PNC Park Wednesday.
Cincinnati Reds
The Reds managed to pick up the win in the opening game of the series on Monday, but Pittsburgh responded with a five run win of their own Tuesday. The Reds are third in the NL Central entering Wednesday’s contest.
Cincinnati has been the best offensive team in the MLB in terms of runs scored. They are averaging 5.5 runs a game and also rank fifth in hits, second in slugging percentage and fourth in home runs with 46.
Cincinnati put up a big offensive game in Monday’s contest. The Reds scored 14 runs on 15 hits, but could not translate that success into Tuesday. The Reds dropped yesterday’s game 7-2 while scoring in two innings.
Sonny Gray gets the start for a Reds pitching staff that has failed to match the production of their hitters. The Reds are in the bottom five league in runs allowed, but Gray has been an effective starter thus far. In 20.2 innings in four appearances so far, Gray has allowed 18 hits, nine earned runs, three homers allowed and 10 walks. He has a 3.92 ERA and 31 striekouts.
Pittsburgh Pirates
Pittsburgh has been the exact opposite team of Cincinnati. The Pirates have arguably been the worst offensive team in baseball and are averaging 3.5 runs a game. The Pirates had just one run and five hits Monday but picked things up with seven runs and eight hits on Tuesday.
JT Brubaker posted a solid outing Tuesday, going six innings while allowing just one run. Trevor Cahill looks to continue the momentum for Pittsburgh and take the series. Cahill has pitched 28.1 innings this season and has allowed 37 hits, 24 runs (22 earned), three homers allowed and nine walks while posting a 6.75 ERA. He gave up eight hits in his last start but allowed just one run.
Pittsburgh is currently 6.5 games behind in the NL Central and is batting .226 as a team. Adam Frazier leads the team with a .308 average.

Free Cincinnati Reds vs. Pittsburgh Pirates MLB Prediction:
Pittsburgh is not a team that should be trusted, especially with Cahill on the mound. The Reds should dominate this matchup and Gray should be able to turn in another good start against a Pirates lineup that has struggled at large to get anything going.
