Things looked a lot better for the Jays over the weekend as they beat Oakland on Saturday and Sunday. next up are the streaking White Sox but the Jays get a slight reprieve as Chris Sale is not scheduled to go tonight.
The Jays start the week with opening day starter Marcus Stroman on the mound. He has been better than his ERA this season.
Chicago White Sox
Chicago is off to a great start. After sweeping the Rangers over the weekend they open the week a smidge ahead of Kansas City in the AL Central.
Amazingly they are doing it almost all with pitching, they have the second worst offense in the Majors. Newcomer Todd Frazier leads the team with 5 homers and resident slugger Jose Abreu is hitting just .183.

Something has got to give and this team should start hitting. Rogers Centre can be pretty friendly.
The Jays catch a break with Miguel Gonzalez getting a start after recently signing. He is very familiar with the Jays from his days with the Orioles and even though he is no ace he has been effective at the Rogers Centre with a 3-2 record and sub 3 ERA. He is a righty too.
The White Sox are first in the Majors in bullpen ERA this season, a big reason they are second in that measure overall. They have not been dominating in terms of the strikeout but no other group has been as effective.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Jays finally started to look like themselves over the weekend. They lost to Oakland on Friday night but over Saturday and Sunday they mashed their way to a couple of easy victories.
Once again Josh Donaldson is off to an MVP start, he is tied for the AL home run lead with 7. The other big bats, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion, are heating up and once the rest of the lineup gets more consistent this team will be playing the ball we expected them to.

Through four starts Marcus Stroman has pitched to the seventh three times. In his worst outing the bullpen really let him down so even though his ERA is over 4 he has actually been pitching very well. There is every reason to like him against the White Sox this evening.
The bullpen has not been great as their 0-6 record can attest. Closer Roberto Osuna has been very good for the most part but they have been having trouble bridging the gap to him. Which is a shame because the starters have been better than expected.

Originally this was going to be a battle of aces with Chris Sale taking on Stroman. With Sale out the pendulum definitely swings back to Toronto in this one.
Gonzalez might have a decent track record but it is not enough for me to take the Sox on the road against a Jays lineup that looks like it is heating up. This game definitely might go over too. Stroman is good about pitching to the score.
