The Kansas City Royals scored an incredible seven runs in the ninth inning to stun the White Sox 8-7 on Saturday, so we’ll see if they can carry that momentum into Sunday’s tilt.
The Sox will send ace Chris Sale to the mound in this one, a guy who’s in prime contention to win the AL Cy Young.
Chicago White Sox
As we approach the final weekend of May, the White Sox are leading the AL Central.
The season is still very young, but I don’t think many people out there had the Sox leading the Central Division by the time June rolled around.
The Sox are average when it comes to scoring runs, but their pitching has been extraordinary so far. Chicago is 5th in ERA, 4th in runs allowed and 8th in batting average against.
Much of that success can be attributed to the amazing Chris Sale, who comes in with a 9-1 record and an incredible 0.84 WHIP.
The Sox ace is coming off his worst start of the season where he was shelled for six earned runs in just 3.1 innings of work.
Still, Sale has been phenomenal this year, and he’s been even better on the road with an ERA of just 1.41 and a WHIP of 0.81.
Kansas City Royals
The defending champs find themselves as heavy underdogs at home as they face the American League’s best pitcher.
Kansas City has struggled to score runs this year, but injuries to key guys like Mike Moustakas and Alex Gordon have contributed to that.
Even when those guys were healthy, the Royals still struggled to get guys across the plate.
They’ll send Edinson Volquez to the mound, a guy who’s done well at home this year.
Volquez comes in with a 2.06 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP at Kauffman Stadium, though the Royals have lost two of his last three home starts.
Much of that has had to do with the Royals not being able to drive home any runs.
Kansas City has scored just seven runs in Volquez’s last three home starts, and only once this season have the Royals scored more than four runs when Volquez has taken the mound.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- White Sox are 9-1 when Sale starts.
- White Sox are 9-8 vs. AL Central.
- White Sox are 14-11 on the road.
- Royals are 12-5 vs. AL Central.
- Royals are 2-4 in Volquez’s last six starts.
Free Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals MLB Prediction:
Aside from his previous start, Sale has been absolutely dominant this season. The scary thing is that he’s been even better on the road.
The Sox have also helped Sale out with plenty of run support, scoring a combined 24 runs in his last three road starts.
While the Royals are sure to bounce back this year, I don’t think they’ll be able to do it against the American League’s best pitcher.
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: Chicago ML
This price is a bit steep, especially for a road team, but it’s tough betting against the best pitcher in the American League. I’ll lay the juice with Sale on the mound.
