Chicago Cubs

Quintana picked up his third win of the season against the Milwaukee Brewers in his previous start. He pitched a gem going seven scoreless-innings giving up just two hits while he struck out seven and walked one. In 13 innings against Milwaukee this year, Quintana has given up zero runs, but in his other three starts, he has given up 17 earned runs.

He may be finally coming around as far as strikeouts and walks as he owns a 14:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Also, his stat line hasn’t been too dreadful; his .295 BABIP is right around where it should be so luck hasn’t been affecting him too much. It’s been Chicago’s defense hurting him as he owns a 62.1% LOB% and 4.24 FIP compared to his 5.74 ERA.

Chicago has been finding ways to win in the last week going 5-2. Their lineup certainly hasn’t been propelling them during that span as they are just slashing .186/.237/.309 to go along with 14 extra-base hits for just 14 RBI.

St. Louis Cardinals

Mikolas was solid yet again putting in his third consecutive quality start, this time against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He traveled seven innings giving up two earned off of six hits while striking out seven and walking none. He was in line for a win until St. Louis’ bullpen gave up three runs in the 9th as the game went into extra-innings where they’d eventually falter.

Out of no where, Mikolas has been awesome for St. Louis posting a 7.36 K/9 compared to an outstanding 0.55 BB/9, while his ERA sits at 3.27 and FIP sits at 3.76. After being out of the big leagues for the last couple of years, Mikolas has certainly earned his spot in this rotation.

St. Louis has been playing mediocre baseball in the last week winning three of their six contests. Their lineup hasn’t been helping as they are only slashing .187/.250/.318 to go along with 16 extra-base hits for just 17 RBI.
