Chicago enters Wednesday at 81-65 after dropping the first two games of this series at American Family Field. The Cubs have lost three straight overall and are 4-6 over their last 10. They now sit nine games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central.

Milwaukee has won two straight one-run games to push its division lead to nine.
The Cubs were one out from winning Tuesday before Jackson Chourio launched a two-run homer in the ninth. Luis Lara then delivered the walk-off single in the 10th. Milwaukee also won Monday’s opener 4-3 after rallying for three runs in the eighth.
Chicago gets one more chance to avoid the sweep Wednesday night.

Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers Odds & Last 5
Milwaukee opened as a modest favorite around -133 on the moneyline, with Chicago returning +113. The Cubs are -189 getting 1.5 runs, while the Brewers are laying the run and a half at a plus price. The total opened at 8.
The first two games have certainly delivered the close matchup those prices suggest.
Milwaukee won each by a 4-3 score, rallying late both nights. Chicago has now dropped three straight after losing 10-3 to Miami on Sunday. The Brewers have won three of their last five overall and three of their last four meetings with the Cubs.
Brewers Stats
Milwaukee has built the best record in baseball without relying heavily on home runs. The Brewers are batting around .257 with an on-base percentage near .340. Their ability to create traffic has helped compensate for a lineup that ranks near the bottom of MLB in home runs.
Jackson Chourio provided the biggest swing Tuesday.
Chourio went 4-for-5 and tied the game with his 22nd homer in the ninth inning. Brice Turang also continues to reach base consistently near the top of the lineup. Milwaukee has received production from different spots throughout its order.
Pitching remains one of the Brewers’ biggest strengths.
Milwaukee carries a team ERA in the mid-3.50s and has consistently kept opponents from putting together big innings. Jacob Misiorowski allowed only one run over 6 1/3 innings Tuesday. The bullpen then kept Chicago scoreless after its two-run ninth until Lara ended it in the 10th.

Cubs Stats
Chicago remains one of baseball’s more dangerous offensive clubs. The Cubs are batting around .251 with an on-base percentage near .340 and a slugging percentage above .430. They have also surpassed 200 home runs for the season.
Pete Crow-Armstrong has become the biggest power threat in the lineup.
PCA has already cleared 40 home runs and homered in Monday’s series opener. Alex Bregman has also been swinging a hot bat lately. Chicago has plenty of power even though it has managed only six runs through the first two games in Milwaukee.
Tuesday’s loss was particularly painful.
Carson Kelly’s pinch-hit two-run double gave Chicago a 3-1 lead in the ninth, but the bullpen couldn’t hold it. A baserunning mistake by Seiya Suzuki also cost the Cubs a potential scoring opportunity in the 10th. Those details have mattered in two straight one-run losses.
The Cubs still have plenty to play for despite the growing division gap. They remain in strong position in the NL Wild Card race and have already shown they can beat Wednesday’s starter.

Cubs vs. Brewers Pitching Matchup
Kevin Gausman starts for Chicago at 9-11 and gets another shot at Milwaukee only six days after dominating this lineup. He allowed one run on five hits over seven innings in a 2-1 Cubs victory. Gausman struck out nine and walked only one.
That was easily one of his best outings since joining Chicago.
His overall numbers with the Cubs have been uneven, but the veteran showed last Thursday that he can handle Milwaukee’s lineup. Gausman kept the Brewers off balance and worked efficiently through seven. Repeating that performance would give Chicago an excellent chance to stop its skid.
Logan Henderson gets the rematch for Milwaukee with a 9-3 record, 2.48 ERA and 0.79 WHIP. He was nearly as good in the same game.
Henderson allowed two runs on only three hits over seven innings.
Pete Crow-Armstrong’s two-run homer accounted for all of Chicago’s scoring against him, and Henderson retired the final 14 batters he faced. He has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his 20 career starts. Wednesday gives both pitchers an immediate chance to repeat last week’s duel.
Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers bottom line: both starters dominated this matchup last week, while Milwaukee enters the rematch with the better recent form and home-field edge.
Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Betting Trends
- The Brewers have won 3 of their last 5 games.
- Also, the Cubs have lost 3 straight games.
- The total has gone over in 3 of the Brewers’ last 5 games.
- The total has gone under in 2 of the Cubs’ last 5 games.
- Additionally, the Brewers have covered the run line in 3 of their last 5 games.
- The Cubs have failed to cover the run line in their last 3 games.
Cubs Brewers Free Pick: Brewers ML -133
Here is my Cubs Brewers free pick: the Brewers ML -133 is my play in Wednesday’s series finale. Milwaukee has taken the first two games at home, and I like its chances of finishing the sweep with Logan Henderson on the mound.
Henderson is 9-3 with a 2.48 ERA and 0.79 WHIP. He faced these Cubs six days ago and allowed only two runs on three hits over seven innings, so Chicago has already seen how tough he can be.
Kevin Gausman was even better in that 2-1 Cubs win, which keeps me from getting carried away here.
These starters just traded seven-inning gems, so I’m comfortable backing Milwaukee’s home-field edge.
The difference for me is what has happened since. Milwaukee has beaten Chicago twice more, including Tuesday’s 4-3 comeback when Jackson Chourio erased a two-run deficit with a ninth-inning homer.
That gives the Brewers three wins in their last four meetings with Chicago and a nine-game division lead. The Cubs are still dangerous, but Milwaukee keeps finding ways to beat them when the game gets tight.
I don’t need another late comeback. I simply need the Brewers to win.
At this price, my money is on the Brewers ML -133.
