Cubs vs. Brewers Gameday
The Chicago Cubs head to Milwaukee at 81-64, sitting second in the NL Central after dropping two straight games. Chicago is 5-5 over its last 10 and now trails the division-leading Brewers by eight games.
Milwaukee enters at 89-56 and has also split its last 10 games. The Brewers took Monday’s series opener 4-3 with a three-run rally in the eighth inning.
Milwaukee now owns a 7-4 advantage over Chicago in the season series.
The Cubs have still shown they can compete with Milwaukee. They split four games at Wrigley Field last week, including a 17-3 win in the series opener. Tuesday’s rematch gives Chicago another shot at cutting into Milwaukee’s division lead.

Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers Odds & Last 5
The betting market strongly favors Milwaukee, with the Brewers around -220 on the moneyline and Chicago at +184. Milwaukee is also laying 1.5 runs at -102, while the total sits at 7.5.
The Brewers have won three of the last five meetings between these division rivals.
Monday’s opener was the latest close one, with Milwaukee rallying from a late deficit for a 4-3 victory. Chicago answered in the ninth with Pete Crow-Armstrong’s 41st home run, but Trevor Megill closed it out. Milwaukee entered that game after losing 12-8 to Cincinnati on Sunday.
Brewers Stats
Milwaukee has been one of baseball’s better contact teams this season, batting .256 with a .339 on-base percentage. The Brewers don’t rely heavily on power, ranking near the bottom of MLB with 133 home runs.
The pitching staff has been the bigger strength.
Milwaukee owns a 3.54 team ERA, among the best marks in baseball, and that pitching has helped the Brewers build the majors’ best record. The lineup has complemented it by consistently getting runners aboard. Milwaukee has scored 730 runs through 145 games.
Brice Turang has been right in the middle of that production, leading Milwaukee with 86 runs and 85 RBIs. He has 17 home runs while reaching base at a .352 clip. Jake Bauers supplies more power with a team-high 24 homers and a .270 batting average.

Cubs Stats
Chicago has done most of its damage with one of baseball’s strongest offenses. The Cubs are batting .251 with a .339 on-base percentage and MLB-best .431 slugging percentage, while their 203 home runs also lead the majors.
Pete Crow-Armstrong has supplied the biggest power numbers.
Crow-Armstrong hit his 41st homer Monday and has driven in 97 runs, putting him within range of a 40-homer, 40-steal season. Alex Bregman has also heated up considerably during the second half. That depth has helped Chicago score an MLB-leading 771 runs.
Pitching hasn’t been nearly as consistent, with the Cubs carrying a 4.21 team ERA. Chicago has also surrendered 217 home runs, one of the highest totals in baseball. That imbalance between a dangerous lineup and shaky run prevention remains a major part of the Cubs’ profile.

Cubs vs. Brewers Pitching Matchup
David Peterson gets the ball for Chicago with a 7-8 record and 5.39 ERA. The left-hander has 113 strikeouts, but his 1.56 WHIP shows how often traffic has created problems for him this season.
Peterson has pitched better during the second half.
He posted a 2.35 ERA over eight starts and one relief appearance beginning July 3 before his latest matchup with Milwaukee. Peterson still faces a difficult assignment against a Brewers lineup that ranks near the top of baseball in batting average and on-base percentage. Keeping runners off base will be the challenge.
Jacob Misiorowski gives Milwaukee a major advantage on the other side. The right-hander enters at 14-5 with a 1.97 ERA, 227 strikeouts and a 0.79 WHIP. Milwaukee is 17-6 when Misiorowski starts as the moneyline favorite.
The Cubs have enough offense to make any starter work, but Misiorowski has been one of baseball’s toughest pitchers to solve. Peterson brings much shakier season-long numbers into the matchup. That starting-pitching gap gives Milwaukee the cleaner setup Tuesday night.
Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers bottom line: Chicago owns the more powerful offense, while Milwaukee counters with the stronger pitching matchup and an eight-game division lead.

Cubs Brewers Free Pick: Brewers -1.5
Here is my Cubs Brewers free pick:
I’m laying the Brewers -1.5, and the starting-pitching gap is the first reason. Jacob Misiorowski brings a 14-5 record and 1.97 ERA into this matchup, while Chicago counters with David Peterson at 7-8 with a 5.39 ERA. That is a gap I want to bet.
Milwaukee also owns the better pitching staff overall. The Brewers carry a 3.54 team ERA, and that gives me more confidence laying a run and a half than their home record alone.
Misiorowski has been the separator for me here.
Chicago’s power makes this dangerous, but Milwaukee has the arm I want backing this runline.
The Cubs lead MLB in home runs and slugging percentage, so Milwaukee cannot count on cruising simply because its ace is on the mound. Chicago can change a game with one swing.
Still, the Brewers have already taken seven of 11 meetings from Chicago this season. They also rallied for a 4-3 win Monday, and I like having the stronger starter behind a team that has consistently found ways to beat this opponent.
The price matters, too. I’d rather lay 1.5 runs than pay a moneyline north of -200, especially with Misiorowski capable of keeping Chicago quiet for six or seven innings.
Milwaukee doesn’t need a huge offensive night for this ticket. Give me the Brewers -1.5.
